Round 1 -- Cameron Jordan DE California Round 3 -- Deunta Williams S North Carolina Round 4 -- Jeff Maehl WR Oregon
Round 5 -- Brooks Reed OLB Arizona Round 6 -- Ollie Ogbu DT Penn State Round 7 -- Nick Bellore ILB Central Michigan
After taking 6 of our 7 last picks on offense the past 2 years, I think its time to add depth to this defense. All feedback is welcome.
Deunta Williams to Rd 3 is a bit optimstic... like Jordan and Maehl... don't know the other guys. PS Ogbu at 6'1" and under 300lbs doesn't have a place on this team...
Yeah, I suspect Williams might go higher. But he did break his leg 2 weeks ago which might hurt his workouts so who knows.
Fair point. They would have to use their #1 on a pass rusher because they lost their #2 to SD. Who do you think they could get that late in the 1st round who fits their system?
Jeremy Beal Justin Houston Aldon Smith or you can get one in the 3rd. I think we will probably acquire an additional 1st or 2nd knowing tanny.
I have never seen you post on here before. How is that possible? Anyway, I would love to get Cameron Jordan with our first pick (assuming we get a few other guys in free agency/trades). I just hope he'll be there.
Don't get a game ready passrusher, but they do get three guys who can contribrute in a big way next season (provided Williams gets healthy). Brooks Reed is a guy I've seen rated all over the place, but he's got talent. I personally like Ellmore better, but I think he might just be a good backup 43 end. I also like the positions you went after, not enough mocks have the Jets taking an ILB to groom, but it's really something they need to spend a later pick on.
I don't post too often but I follow college football religiously. I was always a huge Hurricanes fan growing up and I went to the "U" for Grad School from 02-04 -- lived there for 2 more years. Mambo -- Ogbu I think would play DE in this defebse, maybe like a more talented DeVito type player. Other 1st Round possibilities: Allen Bailey JJ Watt Cameron Heywood Jeremy Beal
Deunta Williams was seriously injured during UNC's bowl game. He fractured his fibula. That's going to hurt his draft stock.
That's why I think he might be there in the third. Otherwise, I saw him going in the mid-late 2nd. Other S options in the 3rd could be Quiton Carter (Oklahoma) or Mark Barron (Alabama). I really think the Jets need to upgrade that position.
I don't see how a player coming off of a serious injury is an upgrade over Brodney Pool or Eric Smith. My view on this would be different if we were able to select a top tier safety prospect, but we're probably not in a position to do that. A mid-rounder, even if that player is somewhat of a steal, will more than likely struggle to start in our scheme. I think Dwight Lowery might have his starting spot on lock. He's just going to get better at safety with experience. If we're going to upgrade the position, it should be through free agency. Dawan Landry could be available. He's a player that already knows how to play in the scheme. Ryan's scheme is complicated. I'm not sold on a rookie safety starting in it. We blitz so much that a rookie safety would be put into a lot of unfavorable situations.
I agree 100% with your take on the complexity of our scheme. What I meant was that, although I like Pool and Smith, they are somewhat limited in what they can do. I would love for Lowery to get a chance to be the CF in this defense. He has proven to be a ball hawk at SJS and in his limited opportunities this year. I wasn't really thinking that a 3rd rounder could step right in and start. Maybe somebody who can be groomed. I do, however, like the idea of Landry in Green and White.
Clemson's DeAndre McDaniel is a safety that could thrive in our scheme, but as of right now, he's a mid-second rounder. We're really not going to be a good spot to draft an immediate contributer at safety. This team desperately needs a pass rush. That should be our #1 priority in the upcoming draft.
