Nah not really... he just had a son so he's doing the right thing by being as careful as he can with his money. Also maybe his parents will give him a hand with his infant?
Slauson made about $800k, but that's before taxes. With insurance, NFLPA dues, etc, I'm sure he only took home less than half that. Good amount of money, for sure, but let's not pretend he's raking it in.
He's been in the league a couple of years, he's not making Sanchez money but he's made more than enough where he should be fine for the few weeks/months there may be a lockout.
Nothing wrong with being prudent, but I'd cut out things like satellite TV, electricity, heat, food and water before moving back in with the parents.
I would guess most people his age that have moved out and have families don't have 2, 3, 4 hundred thousand in the bank.
I wonder how many of the people bashing him for moving in with his folks are living in their parents' basement "temporarily".
I would do the same thing. 400K sounds like a lot, but he does not have a job or health insurance as of this Friday and he can't find another job, the NFL is the only employer in his world.
He's going to be out of work for MAYBE a couple of months and he'll be able to afford COBRA coverage. I have zero sympathy for any NFL player that cannot afford to live during this lockout. It's not hard to find a way to "survive" for a few months when he should have 100s of thousands of dollars in the bank. and he could find a another job while the lockout is going on, he won't find NFL money but he is free to work.
I might be lost... but I could see Matt's baby playing a bigger role in this decision than the article suggests. In any case, I'm not concerned. Seinfeld's observation feels like a bit of a stretch because we're not talking about a lazy 40 year old Cliff Clavin here. Cheers. :beer:
It may seem like overkill but he seems to be preparing for the worst case scenario of the whole season being lost.
I don't have a problem with him doing what he thinks is right but if this is story is being pushed to drum up sympathy for the players I am not biting.
He's not asking for your sympathy. I think it's good to see that a young player who isn't earning millions a year but is surrounded by guys who are still has his head screwed on straight. It's considerably more laudable than Ochocinco's constant bleating about his obsession with expensive clothes, or Revis holding a public discussion on Twitter about what colour he should order his new Range Rover in.
