from www.nysun.com: Both Ramsey and Bollinger are younger and make less money than Pennington. Bollinger struggled in nine games as a starter last year, but he improved late in the year and gave the Jets the kind of mobility at quarterback that Pennington never could. Ramsey has experience running an offense similar to Schottenheimer's with the Washington Redskins. The Jets might just decide that they would rather build for the future with Clemens, Bollinger, and Ramsey, and sever ties with Pennington completely. A more likely result is that Pennington will end his career with the Jets as he started it ? sitting on the bench. It would close out the New York career of a player who just a few years ago looked like the first franchise quarterback the Jets have had since Joe Namath. But it would also begin the Kellen Clemens era. Jets fans shouldn't count on Clemens to lead the league in passing in his first year as a starter, but they can probably count on him starting more than 37 games in the next six years. wow! there is at least one member of the press who gets it! a lot of others and some fans , are still stuck back in 2002. we might as well just bring back dumbway as g.m. and herm as the head cheerleader and announce noodle arm as the starter right now. :shit:
Ah I'm not willing to pronounce Chad's career dead until I see him in action. While unlikely, it is possible he can come back from the surgeries. I don't think Bollinger or Ramsey are the answer, Clemens is a good prospect to have. I think our QB situation will be solved after this season.
Agreed. If you want to build for the future, then let go of Brooks. I know a lot of you guys are riding the Brooks bandwagon, and I just cant buy into it. Is Penny done? Probably. Does he suck as a QB? Not in the least. Is he a good veteran to have around young QBs? Deffinately. Was Brooks short handed with injuries? Yes. Does he deserve another chance? Maybe. Is Ramsey Better than Brooks? Yes. Is Penny better than Brooks? When he was healthy, yes. How about now? He's more intellegent and a better leader. Should Brooks be included in discussions about the "future" of our team? With Penny comming back deffinately, no. Ramsey provides a solid option as a backup and Clemens is where you start building for the future. IMO
I think the coach will keep both Chad and Martin on a short leash and thank God for that. The old FO/Coach never invited any competition. Herman Edwards and Terry Bradway "penned' (not penciled) in their starters for the season during the offseason and there was never any going back. Could anyone ever imagine Herm having an open mind at ANY position as long as one of "his" beloved veterans was still breathing air?
We'll keep all four - decide whether we want Penny or ramsey as a backup to Clemens next year and Brooks remains the best #3 in the league.
............ You started a thread hmy: hmy: :rofl2: Now that's awesome! Wait'll people hear about this
I think you are 100% correct. It is not like KC is ready to carry our team, which is what he would have to do to have any success in terms of W/L. Thus, it is almost remedial to think that anything would be better than keeping Pennington. We might as well give him his one last chance now that he has had a ton of time to heal and is not rushed back or forced to play with a clipped wing instead of just taking him out back and putting a bullet in him and wondering what could have been. Like Jake alluded to, after this year, we are going to know if Pennington can play or not or if Clemens is ready or not.
Pay no attention to . . . Chad Pennington's bravado. Of course the Jets veteran quarterback still feels this is his team and the starter's role is his to lose. But the reality is that with Pennington coming off surgery to his throwing shoulder in consecutive years, Jets management isn't counting on him and would much rather see either second-round pick Kellen Clemens or former Redskins starter Patrick Ramsey emerge to take the majority of the snaps in 2006. If Pennington's career does have a successful second act coming, chances are it won't feature him wearing green and white. from si.com hmy:
you don't think we should start clearing up future cap space now? think of the guys we had to let walk cause way too much of the cap space was tied up by the 2002 6-game wonder.
Pennington is cut after this season. Ramsey starts in 06 and maybe 07. Clemens will have the starting QB job in 07 or 08 and Ramsey will be back-up #2 and Bollinger will be back-up #3.
I'm pretty sure that with the increase in the salary cap as well as all the cuts we made, we are going to be really far under the cap next year. Check with Jetsin2006.
Gets what? Until Clemens proves himself, keep him on the bench. I, too,am not ready to give up on Pennington. He may not have rocket arm, but he has exceptional leadership skills and toughness.
...How can someone who still wishes it were 1999 and that Parcells was the coach tell others to live in the present...
mangini is a tuna guy, in case you only hadn't noticed that. how many times recently were the jets 10 minutes from a super bowl appearance, only 2 years after a 1-15 finish? oh, i forgot. backing into the playoffs 3 times only to go home shortly after means progress ?
Start Clemens ASAP - even three or four games into the season. This team isn't winning more than five games this year, regardless who is Quarterbacking. What's this crap about waiting one or two seasons prior to starting a rookie QB? Let him make his mistakes now, while the team still sucks. Deadweight Chad & C-Mart need to retire - thanks for the memories.
