Yahoo news reporting that Linehan turned down the OC job in San Franscisco for a reason... to become the offensive coordinator of somebody out east... http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/rumors/post/Linehan-could-join-Jets-Bucs-as-offensive-coord?urn=nfl,135547 Linehan could join Jets, Bucs as offensive coordinatorTurns out there's a reason why Scott Linehan reportedly turned down an offer to be offensive coordinator in San Francisco. According to league sources, Linehan is one of the leading candidates to be offensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucanneers fired head coach Jon Gruden, and newly named head coach Raheem Morris is putting together a new staff. Linehan is expected to interview with Morris this week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. But Linehan could have another option. There has been speculation that if Baltimore defensive coordinator Rex Ryan takes the New York Jets head coaching job, he will bring Linehan with him there as offensive coordinator.
interesting find. Linehan is one of those coaches who's excellent as a coordinator but a horrible HC. I wouldn't mind taking a look at him....he could be this year's Cam Cameron. He had great years as Miami and Minny's OC.
I was never a fan of Linehan as a coordinator either, we have a better OC right now and hopefully Schottenheimer stays.
Haha...won't have to worry about Favre coming back if they hire this guy...not what you would call a player's coach.
Linehan's record is 32-32 as Minny's OC from 2002-2004 and the Phins' coordinator in 2005. Not exactly gawdy numbers. And he's defenitly had some problems with players in St.Louis. In his defense...he made Culpepper look like a superstar in Minny. But is Schotty Jr. that much more impressive? I'm a little skeptical. I'd like to see what Schotty can do without Mangini on the sideline.....but Linehan is still intriguing and worth a look...especially if Schotty up and leaves the team.
His O's have always been overrated, put up some meaningless fantasy #s but couldn't execute when needed. he always put the ball in Daunte's hands in Minnesota and they never succeeded b/c of it. Daunte was like Favre this year, alot of TDs but alot of TOs that held his teams back. I would never want Scott Linehan to run the Jets offense.
Culpepper took Minny to a title game in 2000, he never reached that again w/ Linehan. he had his 1 great year under him in 2004 but he led his team to 8 wins in an incredibly weak division. he put too much on Daunte when Daunte couldn't handle it, the coach gets some blame for that not just the choking player just like Schottenheimer can get some blame for Favre BUT favre is a legendary player. it's alot easier to take the ball out of Daunte's hands than favre's especially when the owner wants to sell PSLs & jerseys.
I dunno junc...Linehan's offense didn't look too bad in Miami with Frerotte (18TD's 13 INT's...6 straight wins at the end of the season). Miami had nothing spectacular to work with that year offensively. Frerotte stinks. I still think he's worth taking a look at....he's not an offensive god....but neither is Schotty.
6 straight wins in meangless games b/c they were so awful to start the season plus they won the final game when NE treated it like a preseason game and had Flutie drop kicking PATs. We were 4-12 that year and nearly beat them in Miami in December w/ Brooks at QB and Cedric Houston at RB.
I agree. Schotty has been given a bad rap. I would like to see him back but I also feel that a Head Coach should be able to hire his own coaches.
I don't know if he would be much of an upgrade over what we have. If we lose Shotty, I would prefer to promote Callahan and try to keep some continuity on offense.
i would LOVE scott linehan. He coordinated good offenses in Minnesota as well as in Miami. And when he left Miami we saw their offense completely fall apart. Would much rather have him over schotty.
Your avatar needs to be banned...I open this site here at work and if my boss ever sees it, i'll be done...seriously.
32-32 means nothing for an OC. Where the O ranked is all that counts. In 2002 Linehan's offense was ranked #2 in NFL, in 2003 his offense was ranked #1, in 2004 his offense was ranked #4. In 2005 his offense with shitty ass Miami was ranked #14. Junc his worst season as OC still produced a better offense than Schittenheimer's best season. Explain to me how Schitt to you, is a better OC.
better start typing up your resume, I guess. My avatar isn't showing any nipple...therefore...it shouldn't be considered pornographic.
