yes, he is lighter than the protypical 3-4 DE by about 30+ lbs, but he is super strong and I think can take on the OT and set the edge.

Everyone is clamering for a DE in the draft. Let's try to use the really expensive, super strong guy we already have.

    What do you think? Doable?

oh dude...you might get killed for this one...

IMO a 3-4 DE job is to eat up blocks so the LB's can make plays. Aside from the weight issue I dont think Vern has the aggressivness/balls to play that position. Probably also not good for a guy who doesnt like contact.

The logic isn't terrible. Gholston was as physically strong as Jake Long at the combine. Him being 20 pounds lighter than a more befitting 3-4 DE is pretty much just having less body fat/bulk.

But there's still the issue of him not knowing how to play football of course.

It's been mentioned before....... He has the strength, but not the open field instincts to play OLB. At this point, why not? Fatten him up to eat up some blocks.... a small return is better than ZERO return :shit:

I've been suggesting this for 18 months now. It's been done before. Charles Grant was a monster linebacker when he got to georgia but they decided he was too tight in the hips. 40-50 lbs later he's a stud DE and a first round draft pick and while he hasn't been a perennial probowler he has been very good.

Using this logic he has no position in football.

i don't see any reason to flame this at all.. Truthfully, im surprised, after his extreme lack of productivity, it hasn't already been attempted.

But his size is definitely an issue.. Even though he is has the strength, your underestimating what a 300+ OL leaning on you all game can do to your fatigue..

But if he could add another 20-25lbs.. and get to around 290.. i think that is plenty.. I just want to see this kid produce.. all this physical ability.. and so far.. nothing to show for it..

Nobody gets it even yet..he doesn't want to play football..he got his money and he will be perfectly happy when he is out of the league. You can't be as bad as he is if you are trying..just can't.

They finally will when they see pix of him lounging around a plush resort with a few of Cromartie girlfriends in tow

Vernon Gholston is the JaMarcus Russell of linebackers.

Just wanted to put things into perspective for you

    +1

Let him bulk and just go straight forward every play. That's what he does best. Correction: that is all he can do.

why??.. is it really that far-fetched.. its not like he's producing elsewhere.. why not throw him on the line and see what he can do there..

i don't get why ppl would rather toss him aside instead of finding someway to utilize him.. this is most likely going to be his last year if we don't see something from him..

why waste it.. figure out if ghost can make any contribution to the team.. what else is pre-season for..

Why? Because the guy is not a football player...he can't even make a ST play...let alone be included in the D. If you want to him to DE during the preseason, I'm all for it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we already put Ghost in at DE during last pre-season. I swear he was lined up at LE

I think it's worth a try. I think there's definitely an intelligence thing that is limiting him as well.

Instead of asking him to decide whether he should move forward or backward, put him on the line and throw Gholston into "DRIVE".

Maybe he won't be such a lemon.
