I tend to want to hang onto JMac for at least this season , depends what value we get for him though.
So Juan Wong is Deon Branch's homeless man? (for the bill simmon's readers..) I think Jmac had a good year at the #3 last year. Now, is he worth the money? No way in hell, but we can afford it, and we'll cut him when the time is right. We need Jmac now, I like the look of our WR's.
I think it would be silly to get rid of McCareins, then we lose our depth at WR and we lose our most experienced backup assuming Dwight gets hurt again as he always does.
But he has a good point about Smith. We all saw what happened to Cotchery as soon as he got some serious playing time. I would hate to stunt Smiths growth for a player that in all likelyhood is going to be off the team soon or next off season. Lets get Smith in there, get him some reps and start to utilize the skills he is showing in camp and his ability's for a run after a catch.
Very nice read. All this and no mention of Tim Dwight who is also likely to make the team. Hopefully the oline holds up for Chad... if it does, we are in for a very very nice year on offense.
You're being nice to Dwight. If I was a betting man I'd say that he doesn't even make final cuts this year. Too old, too slow, too small. Yeah, you're a punt returner, albeit not an explosive one. I'll take a pass.
I don't know about JMac. When he plays, It always just looks awkward... hes got great size and speed, but it just doesn't seem like catching the ball comes natural to him. After all this brad smith speculation, I can't wait till the preseason to watch this kid in action. Hopefully will get more than 1-2 plays a game out this kid...
Don't forget Wallace Wright in the mix. Really good ST player. I think the best thing would be to trade McCareins for something next year. Let Brad evolve. If we can find a PR returner in the current mix, I'd probably let Dwight go, too.
Dwight is currently on the PUP list which is probably why there is no mention. Out of sight, out of mind.
Don't you remember what happened when he tried returning punts for us before? I will break something if he lines up to return a punt in a regular season game.
Lets not over react here huh... He'll be fine at PR... just needed a little coaching, that's all. He returned punts in college, I'm sure it was a focus issue more than anything else... but feel free to break things Ellis
I don't know. The camp reports from last week made mention of him attempting to return punts but using his arms like a basketball hoop. Let's hope that things have improved!
From what I have seen/remembered of him returning punts jus before he catches the ball , he momentarily looks down field and as Ellis pointed out loses focus. Funny thing is he doesn't do it KO.
the experience part, yes; but the depth, i disagree. if we trade McCareins, we still have: Coles/Cotchery/Smith/Stuckey/Jackson/Dwight (PUP)/Wright. even from there we may have to make a cut. so i don't think depth is too much of a problem, but like i said, i agree the depth isn't really experienced. cheers
Over react? The guy must have fumbled about 50% of the punts he tried to field over the course of almost an entire season. For some reason Herm kept putting him back there. I really hope you're right that he just needs some coaching because we all know what he can do with the ball in the open field.
