Not a bad mock overall I personally am not a fan of Eric Young, I would prefer Schuening in round 2 but who knows. Round 1 : Vernon Gholston, DE/OLB Round 2 : Eric Young, OG Round 3 : Joe Flacco, QB Delaware Flacco is the surprise pick, unfortunately there is no "insight" into the selections after round 1, but what are you going to do right? I really like Flacco I think he has the potential to be great, but I don't know if you can take him in the third unless you do not think Clemens is the answer. If you don't think so, then go for it. However, it also may be a need pick if we trade CP and can't find a backup via FA. Then I am all for a Flacco selection. Yeah, he will be the future. A third round pick from Delaware. Getting harder to be a Jets fan every year. If Clemens isn't the answer then draft one in the first round or trade for one. Don't set yourself up to have no quarterback for the next 5 years again.

I recall another q.b. from delaware who played for I think oakland.who turned out to be a great pro q.b.
Have you seen the kid play? He transferred to Delaware from a I-A school because his former coaches changed the offensive system and it didn't fit his style of play. Flacco is big and he probably has the strongest, most accurate arm in the draft. After the combine, he'll probably slip into the 2nd round, so if we can land him in the 3rd, that'd probably be a steal.
Ainge has a very good chance of being there for the Jet's 4th rounder and he'd be better value on the pick than Flacco in the early 3rd.
I dunno i prefer flaco to Ainge. To me i don't want us to take a "value" QB. If we are going QB i want a guy who is either going to be my franchise guy for years, or a guy who is going to be a very capable backup for me for years. Since I don't like Ainge as a prospect, i wouldn't draft him because he doesn't fit into the molds i am looking for. Flaco to me is going to be at worst, that backup guy. At best, he starts as a backup, takes over for Clemens due to injury/poor play or whatever, and becomes the greatest Jets QB since Namath.
He's big, I'll give you that. And I have never seen him throw a single ball. You saying he transferred because he couldn't adjust to the new offense makes me think twice. Versatility is a must in the NFL, as coordinators come and go as they please. How is he going to adjust to the NFL after playing against D-IAA defenses? I go to a D-IAA school that is in Appalachain State's conference, so I know the differences are vast. Hell, Sam Keller transfered to the Big 12 from ASU, Flacco goes to a different division? I think he may be benefitting tremendously from those D-IAA defenses. I wouldn't have a problem drafting him, but not in the 3rd round, please. If someone else takes him ahead of us, that's ok. We simply have too many holes along the O-Line and front 7 of the D. I'd rather take a player that fits our holes that has excelled in D-I programs. This is not to say it is impossible for him to succeed coming from AA, he may be a very good pro. I'll admit his measurables are nice. Just 4th or later. We have high picks. Taking him in the 3rd round would be like 66th pick. Plus, if he ended up fooling the coaching staff into false security and then when he saw the field he blew chunks, that would set us back forever (though the same could be said of everyone, I guess). Ever heard of Todd Blackledge? Maybe, maybe not. He was the 7th pick in the 1983 draft from Penn St. by the Chiefs because of one really great bowl. While he was a good college QB, he would not have been drafted near as high. I have a feeling that while Flacco's success has been more sustained, that no one really mentioned him until Delaware made some noise and got to the D-IAA finals, which may be leading to the Blackledge Effect.
Clemens will get next year to prove himself. I believe Mangini will do that. As long as they fix the line Clemens will get comfortable in the system and not have happy feet. Drafting another QB may not happen this year but maybe next year. So if Clemens gives us a 4-5 win season we can look towards Tim Tebow!!!! hahaha
He'll only be a Jr. so there's no guarantee he comes out. Plus, did you hear him during the Heisman Trophy presentation? "I love being a Gator, I love being a Gator, thanks parents and coach Meyer, I love being a Gator"
They switched to a run heavy, spread option type system and the coaching staff chose to go with one of the younger QBs on the roster. He had to transfer to a I-AA because of his eligibablity. Keller had more years left than Flacco. I don't care about Flacco's great stats against weak competition -- what I saw when I watched him play, was size, strength, and the ability to make ALL of the throws. I don't want to see the Jets draft a QB anywhere before round 3, but if Flacco is available in mid round 3 or early 4, I'd love to see him selected.
Alright, Dave Wannstedt has been around forever and coached in the pro's I think he knows a pro QB when he sees one. If he thinks that Flacco was such a gem, I'm sure he would have kept him around. But instead, Flacco found limited playing time behind now undrafted free agent signing to the Saints, Tyler Palko? Yeah, I'm sure you were impressed in his game against SC. Or was it a highlight video? I'm watching one now and he hasn't looked off the WR he was going to throw to one time. You think that's gonna work in the big leagues? KC could make all the throws in college too. We don't have a mid 3rd round pick.
Flaco's a very good QB, as someone who's seen him play a couple of times. Is he a 3rd round pick? Maybe. But I love Gholston in round 1 and a guard in round 2. I don't know how good Young is, but I like the positions we took.
