This is a guy who is now a downlineman DE to be exact but he fits the role of a standup OLB in the 3-4 defense.. 6'2" 255lbs good size for a olb in the 3-4...is good with containing has long arms to disengage linemen.. Comparison is to Lamar Woodley and if he is half the man Lamar is then we in good shape... Bryan Thomas is not cutting it so we need a pass rusher and this is the guy we should go after... he would be a steal imo

I'm from the Buddy Ryan (Father of Rex) school of thinking

IMO you can never have too many guys who can obliterate the Quarterback and you can always find a way to use them

In fact Buddy Ryan's famed 46 defense was essentially this ...

Send more pass rushers than they have blockers and put the Quarterback in the ICU

I would imagine Rex is a chip off the old block, so I would never discount guys like Maybin, Barwin, English, etc.

We need that fire back like when donnie henderson was in charge of the D fense in like 2003 - 2004 no that defense had QB's running scared

Edit to this post....'as per Mayock/Willie McGinest perspective last night on NFL Network, not my own.'

Regarding English: I don't think we can afford to put any more money into OLB until a)Thomas is gone or b) we find out what Gholston can bring to the team this year

I ahve a hard time seeing Tanny buyoff on another OLB this draft. More likely is a DE that can creat some push or pressure on passing downs. One of Gilbert of Jackson should be availble for us in that reguard.

Rex is going to get a year with Gholston, Pace, and Thomas as his OLB's. He is going to get to do things "his way" and then perhaps make a change. He says that he puts player in the place ot make plays, not fit players into his system. If this is the case we may see more production out of some of our current players. If things do not change then eitehr the coach is not all he is cracked up to be or the players are truly not working out. Its a big season for us in the reguard.

We may have out Larry English already on the team in Marques Murrell. He could get a real good shot this year. Mangini burried the kid because he didn't was to hurt Vernon "Soft As Charmin" Gholston's feeling. Rex will play this guy and he will outplayed both Gholston and Thomas in training camp and preseason. Keep an eye on him cause Rex likes guys that can get after it and I believe Marques will fill that requirement.

Yes, I know this...my point was that you should have sourced what you said, it wasn't your perspective, it was the perspective of Mayock and McGinest.

What the heck are you talking about, the reason Murell was not on the field was because he isn't that great, he is a feel good story, a decent special teamer and a cheap backup.

Gholston was benched as well and barely ever saw the fild so its not like Gholston was stealing playing time, I want to look it up but I would guess they played similar snaps this season

Yeah it would be an awkward pick. Everyone would just be like "Okay, player should be good, but why pick him?"
