Interesting news. I know we are pretty set at RB, but I can immediately think of one team that could use him if he is cheap. That would be the Patriots. Nov 18. The Oakland Tribune indicates LaMont Jordan is a candidate for release if the Raiders promote Michael Bush (leg) to the active roster this week. Bush must be activated from the Non-Football Injury list by Wednesday or he'll go on I.R. Jordan doesn't have value on special teams and did not dress for Sunday's game. We suspect he'd be quickly snatched up after getting cut, but would be unlikely to make an immediate impact for another team.
Ya gotta wonder what he did to piss in Lane Kiffin's coffee cup. He had an excellent first 4 games and then after the bye they just kind of forgot about him.
I would love to pick him up not as a RB, but as a FB. He just as bulky as Darian Barnes, and although he obviously can't block like Barnes it would allow our offense much more versatility. He has great hands and is averaging 4 yards per carry this year still, he is still a very powerful runner. He would be a great kind of hybrid FB, kind of like a bigger Richie Anderson. I think we should definitely look into him.
My scattered thoughts on this note: (1) Hasn't the inept Raiders' front office (outside of Amy Trask) done enough already to hand New England a Superbowl trophy?! (2) That poor, poor Michael Bush. He had so much promise. (3) This might just be the surest sign that LaMont DOES still have 1000 yard potential.
I always liked the attitude that LaMont ran with , he did not shy away from contact. I thought he would do big things as a starter but other than a solid first year with them he has backslid. I could see the Pats going after him to replace Morris. We could sign him but what would we do with him? FB is a interesting idea.
Jets should make a waiver claim on him if he is released. That'd guarantee New England doesn't get him and it would give the Jets another reasonable option and some valuable depth at tailback for next season. He'd cost us cap and nothing else to acquire and he might be the guy if we get unlucky with injuries in the backfield next season.
I've always been a Lamont fan. With Herm, he was always the bridesmaid... never the bride. Herm would have run Curtis Martin if he needed to call in a motorized wheelchair.
