    - Q: Mel, you are the New Orleans Saints. What are you looking for if you trade the No. 2 pick, and who do you draft if you keep the pick? -- Terrence, New Orleans

A: First of all, I would have sat at No. 2 and drafted Matt Leinart and not signed Drew Brees. Brees is an excellent quarterback, but he is coming off a shoulder injury. I think Leinart is going to be the next Ken Stabler. But that's neither here nor there.

The Saints may draft defensive end Mario Williams, although D'Brickashaw Ferguson would fill a bigger need at left tackle. The speculation is the Saints will take best player available, N.C. State defensive end Mario Williams over Virginia tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson. Who do they need more? Ferguson, but Williams is a great player. The Saints also need a defensive tackle, cornerback, linebacker and offensive tackle. What I would do is move down from the second pick to the fourth or seventh pick. If they are forced to keep the pick, it looks like it's going to be Williams, and you can't argue with that even though they already have Will Smith and Charles Grant.

    - Q: Assuming the Jets don't trade the pick, if tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson is off the board when they pick fourth overall, who do you see them drafting? -- Josh, Long Island

A: If Ferguson is gone, then maybe linebacker A.J. Hawk. The Jets also could move down a bit and get a defensive back like Michael Huff from Texas. They have need areas that would allow them to move down a bit in the first round and still get the player they need.

    - Joe NJ: Mel, with the recent history of quarterback busts and with so many needs to fill aren't the NY Jets better off drafting Ferguson,Williams or Hawk rather than a quarterback.

SportsNation Mel Kiper: I don't think you worry about past busts when you draft a player. You're never worried about past drafts and mistakes by other teams. You have to feel like you have to evaluate players the way you do. I think the Jets are a team that would be helped by Ferguson. They could also use a RB. Their need areas goes 7 deep. That's why having the extra picks is very valuable for the Jets.

    - Kale, Montana: What is your opinion on Omar Jacobs? Do you think he can be a starter in his rookie season?

SportsNation Mel Kiper: Omar is a hard one to predict, I've said this all along. It's the release that concerns me. The system he played in at Bowling Green is very QB friendly. For me he's a second day guy.

As usual Mel is off base when it comes to the Jets. I think he hates us being a Maryland/Baltimore Colt guy.

Anyway, why would we want Huff? Why do we need a DB? Does he remember we have a bunch of young safeties and Miller at CB?

    exactly.

he says our needs go 7 deep. so why in the world would we use the first selection to address DB?

i agree we need another CB, but not in R1.

    "that's ignorant...he's ignorant."

    cheers

I don't agree, He said pick up more picks by moving down and taking Huff (who would be an upgrade for us). Thus, enable us to fill more needs, with the extra picks. I would look to fill different needs but they can be filled a little later on. I think that maybe moving a few spots and taking Ngata then later taking Mangold and one of the OT's would be good for us.
