For this off season I'm going with a "what I hope JD will do approach". I'm trying to stay within reason with what we know about JD so far. I used FanSpeak for my FA signings and Pro Football Network for my mock. Key Signings TE Dalton Schultz. I'm focused on a 2 TE base and it all starts with him RG James Daniels Getting LDT last year showed we're only as strong as our weakest link. With LDT going back to Medicine, we got a reliable player at the beginning of his career. RT Morgan Moses We will never find continuity if we're switch 40% of our line every year. Fant backs up Becton - Becton backs up Moses. S Justin Reid A lousy 2021 after 2 solid years in a position our CS staff doesn't value sounds like a 1 yr "prove it" JD specialty. There are a ton of RBs on the market and we need some thunder but with the FA depth, I decided to wait until after the draft. I used Pro Football Network bc I can make trades and it's relatively realistic. But I'm not happy with how it starts bc it's a little too lucky. Neal went 1st, KT went 2nd.... and George Karlaftis went 3 #4 EDGE Aidan Hutchinson - I'm playing with the hand I'm dealt and I can't throw out pocket Aces #10 I was desperate to trade back. My trades kept getting declined but I wanted an extra 2nd this year and a #1 next year. I finally made a deal with Dallas for 10 & 2023 3rd for Pick 24, 56, and 2023 Dal 1st I looked at who was available, saw who was highest on my board and thought..... no, I can't do that, can I? I did #24 EDGE David Ojabo - That rotation should give us the strongest pass rush in the league. Injury proof. Fatigue proof. An expensive position under financial control for the next 5 years. #35 CB Trent McDuffie - Hopefully QBs won't have time to throw but McDuffie would help make sure the passes that do come out don't land. The group performed better than expected last year but a #1 CB would turn the unit from a pleasant surprise to a strength. #38 TE Trey McBride - MLF is dying to put his mark on the game with the plays he can design with 2 pass catching solid blocking TEs. This is the new base of the New Jets #56 LB Chad Muma - As a LB, Chad's strength is in pass coverage and stopping the the run. His weakness is rushing the passer. Luckily, that lines up with our needs. Going into the 3rd round, I was ready to get my RB as a strong run game is supported by 2 TEs. But when I saw the WRs still available, I pivoted and put RB on hold #69 WR John Metchie With he, Ross and Pickens available I went with the best route runner over the big bodies #108 TE Jeremy Ruckert - He's a Jets fan and some developmental depth to an important position in our O #114 RT Max Mitchell - Has the height, needs to put on some weight. Team him up with Becton and get our RT of the future ready #145 S Isaiah Pola-Mao - I like the pedigree #162 LB Leo Chenal - How was he still here? After not getting a RB in the draft, I decide to treat myself to an unsigned RB and pay a thumper a pretty nice 2 year deal (7m). I'm going with Fournette but we can pivot to Connor if we need to. I'm very exited about the quality and depth across the board with how everything turned out.
I luv signing James Daniels--he was a center in college as I recall. Pair him with Linderbaum and the middle of our line is set.
