We should do updates on players so everyone has a little info heading into drafts. Here's some on Kevin Jones RB Detroit Lions who could end up having a huge year in Detroit...
You got it, but last year people were fighting to get him and I missed out in every draft. Turns out that was to my benefit. But I have faith in my VT stars so I was hoping I could snag him in the second round.
there were two main players i was going after last year....K Jones and culpepper..good thing i didnt get them i settled for trading away curtis for LJ (before the hype) and i traded for clinton portis oh yea, i also drafted ladanian tomlinson but anyway..back on topic...i like k jones but hate the lions, i wanted him when i saw he got 800 sumthing yds in the last 7 gms of the season but he didnt do too well
Quick Question, Why are you guys high on Kevin Jones? Mike Martz has always been pass oriented. What am I missing?
Mike Martz is still only the O-Coordinator, he doesn't have final say. And if Kevin Jones only rushes for 1100 yards, who cares, he may catch 60 balls. Marshall Faulk thrived with Martz, Jones can do the same.
hes a great back but always injured, i wouldnt count on him for much. in fact the best sleeper at RB might just be DeAngelo Williams. Aside from Bush being the best potential back in the draft, I think Williams was the most NFL-Ready. If Foster is showing that he cant stay healthy yet again, then I wouldnt be surprised to see Williams the starter. Either way they will have a great rushing attack that can do nothing but benefit from their defense, let alone D's having to focus on Steve Smith and Keyshawn. whoevers running here should put up good numbers, but Ive been high on Foster since hes been in the league only to see his seasons end in injury.
Last year I took Kevin Jones 7th overall in my Asbury Park Press league. I wound up using him only 3 times. He scored 11 points. Easily my worst first round pick in any fantasy sport. One of the three weeks, I paired him with Anthony Thomas in the backfield. Fortunately, I was able to overcome this. I won the league and got my picture in the paper. Chief reason I won the league: I was astute enough to draft Larry Johnson 66th overall. I was 9-1 when using Johnson, which included playing him when Priest Holmes was still starting. This was a league with default Yahoo settings. Look at my team's point totals down the stretch: 100, 115, 125, 112, 97, 121, 142, 138. I also lost Brian Westbrook before the playoffs. I started Cedric Houston in the semifinals and Willie Parker in the title game.
Disappointing second season motivates Jones ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) - Disappointing as last season's 5-11 finish was for the Detroit Lions, it hit Kevin Jones particularly hard. He entered the season poised to become one of the NFL's best young running backs but finished far from the 1,000-yard plateau in one of the league's most lethargic offenses. The bad taste is driving Jones as he enters his third training camp with the team. 'That got me ready for this season,' he said Thursday. 'After that, I was so anxious to come back and do better this year. That was a test, I think, to make me come back stronger.' Jones led all rookie rushers in 2004 with 1,133 yards and finished strong, recording his top eight performances after the season's halfway point. He managed just 664 yards in his second season. Shoulder and elbow injuries kept him out of three of the Lions' final five games. He often seemed to disappear in coach Steve Mariucci's West Coast offense as Detroit ended the year 26th in rushing offense. Jones had four 100-yard games as a rookie but his best game in 2005 was his first, an 87-yard day against Green Bay. He never got closer to the century mark the rest of the season. Part of that, he said, was because he didn't get enough carries. Jones averaged two fewer carries per game in 2005. 'I thought they could've used me better,' he said. He said he felt better when new coach Rod Marinelli brought Mike Martz onto his staff. The new offensive coordinator, known for his diverse schemes in St. Louis, had a simple message for his starting tailback. 'He just said he expects me to be a leader,' Jones said. 'I felt better when I heard they were bringing him in. I get to showcase my talents.' A strong runner with the ability to get outside, Jones probably can expect to pick up more yardage through the air - he had 20 receptions for 109 yards last season - under Martz, who relied heavily on pass-catching backs Marshall Faulk and Steven Jackson in St. Louis. 'He passes a lot, so hopefully I'll be taking over that role that Steven Jackson and Marshall Faulk had,' Jones added. 'Our offense is pretty complicated so teams can't focus on one back or one receiver.' Complicated might be an understatement. Before each practice, Lions players get about nine new pages with about 45 new plays. They'll keep installing them until the preseason is over. 'It's a lot,' Jones said of the homework load. 'But you've got to know them. He might call something at any time and you've got to be ready.'
