I think the guy should get a raise....keep him around..he covered for alot of Brick's mistakes last season, the team knows and likes him...I think this is bullshit on the part of the team...

Jun 14 Mark Cannizzaro, of the New York Post, reports New York Jets OG Pete Kendall will likely not report to training camp if he does not get a new contract, according to a source close to Kendall.

i don't understand why he is whining soo much. he's been solid for us, but cmon man... your not the star of the team. they should release him before he pulls the same shit he did in arizona and becomes even more of a circus.

I think the idea is that he renegotiated last year to make cap space, performed decently and played a major role in the locker room, and now wants to be compensated fairly for it. it makes sense to me, but it is funny how these things become so childish.

He took a cut in 2005 and they subsequently paid back what he was cut by giving him a raise to $5 million in 2006. He signed the damn extension last year, it's not like he played way the hell over his head or anything. He's been average and is only declining. IMO, this was probably his plan all along because he thought with his influence in the locker room and such and a new FO and coaching staff that he'd be able to renegotiate the remaining 3 years by holding out and testing this FO's mettle.

From the FO's POV, if they give in, it's sending a message to the players saying "if you hold out, we'll give you what you want". Terrible precedent.

Yep. the Jet's, BTW, are at least partly responsible for the emerging fiasco. Bundling 4 draft picks to take two defensive players on the first day while ignoring the o-line really left them a weaker hand than they should have had.

He was highly regarded coming out of school but had some weight issues and hasn't been abl to stay healthy for too long. He was mainly released by Philly because of his bust potential, and with their stockpile at the position, they didn't need to take that risk. He's definitely got the potential to be above average in this league, but it has yet to be seen if he can match it.

According to reports, he's been good while he's been practicing with the first team.

I can see why they set a precedent if they give in, but where do they turn if they decide to release him?

It's gone too far already, I think they have to let him go. If they pay him, they set that precedent, if they don't and he stays, he wont care and will be a bad influence....Kendall's attitude is not going to just change all of a sudden, not unless he gets what he wants.....

SO, I think this is it, he has to go.

if tanny actually agreed with him that he is underpaid, then thats a big mistake on his part. theres no reason to say something like that to a player who is under contract, and who wants more money.

what i find odd is that he signed a 4 year deal and then says "we all knew it was just a 1 year deal".....i know in the nfl there are deals made that have the tail end for show.....but didnt that entire 5 mil count against last years cap? if he wanted a 1 year deal, why not just sign off on 1 year and go from there.....especially if there was so many variables up in the air when it came to his future with the team....

i like kendall a lot....and id rather see him stay here and play. i think 1.7 mil is a ton of money, but for a starting O lineman, who gets his snot rocked every play and does it well in the scope of the nfl hes underpaid....with the cap room thats available im shocked they just didnt get something done privately to even kick it up to 2.5....its not like we were gonna have to break the bank on this.....

in any case, it looks like kendalls done....and thats too bad....and its too bad it ends this way, because hes a better guy than what all this magnifies.
