At the bottom of an article about Martin in the Times: Extra Points Left guard Pete Kendall reported for camp yesterday. Kendall, a 12-year veteran who turned 34 this month, is set to make $1.7 million this year after averaging $3 million the previous three seasons. He is seeking to have the four-year deal he signed with the Jets last season restructured so he will be paid $2.7 million in 2007. Good a positive step. Jul 27 Updating previous reports, Tom Rock, of Newsday.com, reports ....................................... New York Jets OG Pete Kendall showed up for mandatory team activities Thursday, July 26. It had been speculated he may hold out because he is unhappy with his current contract.http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/nyj/notes;_ylt=A0WTeQTP8KlG6wwBexKQ2bYF
Yeah, but didn't he make 5.2 million last year as a result of the restructure? Which would mean he's still averaging about 3 million per year. They don't talk about that part. I'm glad he showed up...we really need him. I just don't know what kind of player he'll be (oft injured?).
Someone from JI stated that Mangini had Kendall playing with the second string in the AM practice, with Clarke running with the first team. Sucks being in that mans dog house
he's a professional man, he's not gonna show up and half ass it, what team would pick him up then?! everybody knows the nfl is a buisness and there's no market for old guards who "don't feel like going hard" if there unhappy about their contract
Kendall has 14,000 reasons for being in camp today. But being there and being productive are two different things. My concern is that the guy will dog it and loaf around just for spite. If that's going to be the case, he's making a big mistake. So for now, yeah, let him be in the doghouse. He belongs there until he begs for forgiveness and shows Mangini he's genuinely there to contribute and help the Jets win and has genuinely put all this other shit out of his mind.
I dont think you guys understand sports at all, you dont show up if you're not going to give 100 %, it's that simple. Kendall does not seem like the kind of player to show up and half-ass it.
I agree with that. This guy doesn’t have many options out there to go after. Plus I am sure his contract isn’t playing time orientated; that’s usually for higher profile guys. So if he remains in the dog house and rides the bench or comes in as a rotation guy 1.7 ant bad at all. Or just maybe he gets cut as rumored?
Kendall is not unintelligent and will want to put this to bed as will Mangini. Theres no way on gods earth, even if they kissed and made up that he would go straight back to 1st team activities. Its a step forward and should be viewed as just that. Neither side in this should be apologising as each has 'fought' for what they believe to be right. Be men and get it sorted.
It doesn't seem like it is going to work out. Kendall again ripped the organization after practice, saying he is being held hostage (for 1.7 million, please). He is really becoming a pain in the rear. I love that he was "mistakenly" assigned to the rookie dorm. At this point you make him sway as long as you can. From Cimini's blog Then, of course, there's the Pete Kendall situation. As expected, the disgruntled guard ripped the organization (yes, again), claiming he's being held hostage. Kendall, speaking after practice, said he doesn't want to be here. He believes the organization doesn't want him here, either. So why is he here? There are two reasons why the Jets haven't granted Kendall's request for a trade or released: * Despite his unhappiness with his contract, he's still a solid player and they don't want to unload an asset unless they can get something of value in return. * Vindictiveness. The Jets don't want to give Kendall a "Get Out of Jail Free" card because they know he'd sign immediately with divisional rival Miami. When Kendall showed up to camp, he was assigned to the rookie dorm. Was that a statement by Mangini? The coach said it was an honest mix up. "There's no conspiracy theory, there's no grassy knoll," Mangini said. Anyway, Kendall complained to the coach and GM Mike Tannenbaum and his room got changed. In practice, he was relegated to second-team duty (another message?), although Mangini insisted that Kendall is rotating with Adrien Clarke. http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/ also interesting that Brad Smith is back at QB, hmmm
Maybe they figure the more they can keep Kendall bitching and moaning about his room and his practice time with the 1st team, the less time he's got to bitch and whine to the press about being released. I hope the air conditioner in his room is on the fritz tonight. That'll keep him busy tomorrow morning.
 Kendall has always been vocal about his displeasure (as evident in his departure from Arizona), so this really shouldn't come as a surprise. Whether it's intentional or not, I think the FO's actions are pretty funny and justified. They don't want any player thinking they're above the team, and aren't afraid to put 'em back in their place. I think they'll end up eventually cutting ties with him before the season starts...like they did with Mawae last year.
