Clemens really impressed me last night, He made almost all the throws he was asked too. He did very well for a rookie, If Pennington really did get injured, i could careless, Cause i am postive Clemens can get the Job done. But i am still rooting hard for Chad. But Clemens just blew me out of the water with his passing, and yes i know it is only the first pre-season game and it is really early too start predicting things, but i am execited to see what else he can do.
The fade he threw to Cotch in the endzone should have been caught for a TD...Zemaitis played some great D on it, but if Cotchery fought more for it, he would've had a TD.
you could care less? that means you don't care the least amount that you can, which means you do care somewhat about Pennington getting injured. just trying to clarify your post.
Clemens looks like he has the number 2 job locked down and will be the eventual starter should Pennington go down. It may have been the first preseason game but Clemens looked sharp in Brian Shot's offense.
his passing skills were admirable, but I still think he would be much better served by watching from the sidelines for as much as six games into the regular season. This would give him a better feel for what the NFL caliber defenses will bring. Remember, last night was the first preseason game. Opposing defenses won't start piling it on at least till the second regular season game. Hopefully, Chad his healthy, and will continue to get his game back, he is still our best chance of getting wins this season based just on his leadership and decision making.
Sadly, I think its not "should" penny go down but "when." I like the guy a lot but even my wife has begun to call him humpty dumpty. Its really too bad because he's a warrior, albeit a fragile one.
My enthusiasm for Clemens is tempered by it being preseason and the 2nd team defense he played against. I remember Nagle as a rookie leading the Jets to an undefeated 4-0 preseason and how great he looked then too. No, I am not comparing Clemens to Nagle, but we really just don't know yet, do we? I'm starting to sound like Champ69 now, damn  I guess I haven't gotten in to this season being a memorable one just yet. More like a whole lot of wait till next year. I hope I'm wrong.
I think he looked ok, as I wasn't really blown away by anything he specifically did. Personally, I think him and Bollinger are basically the same QB. Clemens might have a little more zip on his ball. Then again, we haven't seen enough of him to really gauge what he's capable of. The striking thing I noticed is he looks undersized. In any event, if the season falls to him, we'd no doubt be in for some frustrating growing pains. Lets hope Chad stays healthy at least for now.
no way, Clemens is head and shoulders above Bollinger. If he was 1 1/2 - 2 inches taller, he'd be the first QB selected in the draft...some analysts had him as the best QB anyway!
clemens looked awesome and in my opinion had the advantage over chad last night because of chads 2 fumbles
Cutler and Clemens both showed alot of talent last night. I was surprised that he played so well in his first game. Denver and the Jets might have gotten the two best QBs in the draft.
WHOA THAR!! lets not get too far ahead of ourselves, I agree he played well last night but... I also agree that he looked obviously SHORT!! and until I see VY bomb out.. Cutler and Clemens have to wait to claim the title of best rookie QB pickup.
That was Nagle's second year, and he was handed the starting job at the beginning of training camp and given all the reps - he looked good in preseason, did well in his first game (even though it was a loss) and the year went down from there. Lageman tore up his knee and missed almost all the season, I think that was the year Toon broke a bone in his back, and Byrd broke his neck. The result? 4-12 in a season the Jets were tipped to win the Super Bowl. Sends a shudder down my spine every time I think of that season...
It was only the first exhibition game. Do you really think Shottenheimer is going to open the playbook for everyone to see.I have met Chad many times at practice and I sit in front of his family at the Meadowlands. I have no doubt that he will have a great year for us. I only hope that Curtis gets back to block for him. In Chad we trust!
It's hard not to get excited about the potential that Clemens displays, but realistically he is still a rookie and probably a season and a half away from being an effective starter.
