http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/je...et-karl-dunbar-to-be-new-defensive-line-coach The Daily News has learned that the Jets have offered Karl Dunbar their defensive line coach position. Barring an eleventh-hour change of heart, it is believed that Dunbar, who spent six seasons as the defensive line coach for the Vikings before he was fired earlier this month, will accept the offer. The Jets targeted Dunbar shortly after he and the Vikings parted ways, bringing him to the team facility in Florham Park, New Jersey, for an interview two weeks ago. The Jets have already made radical changes to their offensive staff by hiring offensive coordinator Tony Sparano, offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo and wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal. Current defensive line coach Mark Carrier may be reassigned to another staff position. Dunbar helped build one of the most stout run defenses in the league over the past several years. Anchored by the famed “Williams Wall” of Pat Williams and Kevin Williams, the Vikings lead the league in rush defense from 2006-08 and ranked second in 2009. Dunbar also coached perennial Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen. The Vikings ranked in the Top 10 in total defense from 2008-2010. Dunbar, a former defensive end, played for Buddy Ryan with the Cardinals in 1994 and 1995. Rex Ryan was a defensive assistant on that staff, coaching the defensive line in 1994.
solid hire, well I guess that means we'll be doing some more 4-3 schemes as well to get Mo Wilk and DeVito more cracks at the QB
I bet Carrier is moved to either safety or Outside linebacker coach. I like the move. Clearly it was made for the upgrade factor
Both Williams', Ray Edwards and of course Jared Allen flourished under Dunbar so it would be pretty damn good to get someone with the experience like that to come here.
Jets are targetting DEs in the first two rounds then? Also this should mean that Pouha is the NT, and Mo Wilk is playing 3T, right?
Provided Jets can find their bookend DEs, the weakness along the slow OLBs can be effectively shielded. Can't be too bad. But then, does this mean Jets are going Bates 4-3 type? I mean, I am sure Mo Wilk and Pouha can both take on double teams if called upon. Or are we using Pouha/DeVito middle with Wilkerson off the edge? Then we would be addressing the DE position in 1st round, then safety in 2nd (or the other way around.) EDIT: I was thinking about Bates 4-3 purely based on what I have seen from the Williams Wall, but Jets LBs are in general too slow to play Bates 4-3. Jesus. Slow LBs are the bane of all defenses. JUST WHAT THE FUCK HAVE YOU CONJURED UP HERE, TANNENBAUM???
He's a d-line coach, I don't think that means we're playing more or less of any front. He's going to be teaching responsibilities and techniques of d-line play regardless of the front. If he isn't already familiar with a particular front or technique I'm sure Rex or Pettine can fill him in just fine.
