Miller can't cover nor tackle. He has great speed and good athletisim but no techniche or brains. Similiar to Ahmad Carrol. He's an extrmely weak link. Whenever a team needs a first down they attack him. Barton can't tackle either. Takes terrible pursuit angles, and always missing arm tackles. No Nose Tackle. Hobson is Non-existant. And we have to stop making excuses for D-Brick. He looks terribly overmatched and out of place. I'm starting to seriously dislike D-Brick. His DE counterpart is making every play behind the line. Sometimes he runs aimlessly blocking thin air.
wow, your optomistic huh so we should just cut miller and bench brick huh? yea, thatll make us better
Are you kidding me D'Brick has been great all year. Penny had all day to throw today but nothing was open why dont you shut the hell up until you have something smart to say. My 900th Post.
Step back from the ledge about Brick. He's a rookie learning one of themost difficult positions in the NFL. He's gonna make mistakes this year. The issue arises when he keeps making them a couple years from now.
D'Brick is a rookie pass-blocker playing against one of the best D-lines in the business. If you think he had a chance today, you were the one missing something.
Miller is one of the best KRs in the NFL. He is probably a nickel back at this point, but to cut him is stupid. Brick is a rookie LT. It takes 2-3 years to be a solid starter at LT in the NFL. He's almost there now, just takes time. Our guards, particularly Brandon Moore, are the main problem on the line.
Pennington had all day to throw most of the day today. D'Brick looked fine and has looked fine the first 5 games. Sure, there are times where he makes mistakes but who doesn't? He is a rookie T and he is playing with the consistency of a veteran right now. They even mentioned in the broadcast how much better our running is to the left behind D'Brick. You are aloud to have your own opinion but support it with something instead of just coming out and saying it.
D'Brick has been absolutely amazing. Outside of maybe Orlando Pace, how many rookies have advanced this far this fast? Brick has to rely even more on technique since he isn't as big as Pace.
Pace is bigger but Brick has even quicker feet and longer arms. When he learns BETTER technique..he's gonna be unstoppable.
Not to mention the pass protection was fine. Almost every sack today was a coverage sack. The Jaguars shutdown our receivers.
Like I said in an earlier thread...teams have figured out that they dont need to/cant blitz us b/c our OL pass protects pretty well and chad has a quick release. So w/o a running game..they can key on the short passing game and having alot of people back in coverage. The result is coverage sacks.
It takes time to learn better technique though. What are your thoughts on his learning progress? I've been pretty impressed with him, but you've probably seen him play more than I have (I have to get the torrents afterwards, and either way being at a game will always be better than just watching on the TV). I remember you had really good insights on O-line. I think the thread starter here is definitely being overcritical of D'Brick. We didn't expect him to be a Pro-Bowler right away, that's not a realistic expectation for a rookie LT.
The O game plan was very faulted today. Jax has had trouble generating a pass rush before this game, and we over-protected Pennington and didn't put enough recievers in the pattern to get open against a D secondary that has holes in it. We also did not come in prepared to put 8 in the box, and shut down the run. This was the first game that made Mangini look like the rookie HC he is. Bad game plans on both sides of the ball, that failed to target the opponent's weaknesses. Clemens is FAR away from being ready. Talk about happy feet. This game wasn't progress. It was a complete unmitigated disaster, and these personal fouls on QB hits are really starting to piss me off. Niether Vilma or Barton deserved those penalties, and while I still think we would have gotten our asses kicked, those calls made it a certainty.
Brick was one of the few bright spots. His pass protection was excellent but as J_V said, Chad had nowhere to go with the ball all day. He had time to throw, just couldn't find anyone open.
Whoever the starter of this thread is I want him to tell us what he thinks D'Brick isn't doing and what he can do better before telling us how bad he is.
You can't give up on Miller yet. Barton is the last of our worries. Agreed. I'd worry more about hacks like Bryan Thomas before Victor Hobson. Agreed. He is a starting LT rookie on a very bad team. Give him more than 5 games.
its so easy to talk trash about brick. i mean, he should be able to block guys for 10 seconds and then some every down, right? it isnt like they were coverage sacks or anything....no, that would be just all too plausible. you're an idiot.
Justin Miller is pure crap. Mentally just isn't prepared to be a starter in this league, and seems like the anti-Mangini type of player. Interesting to see if he'll be around for the next couple of years that Eric'll be here. D'Brick and Mangold have both played well, and as finesse players, perhaps aren't great in run blocking, but they are still rookies and aren't complimented with the huge maulers that'll be there with them in the future.
