my ps3 is one of the originals and i never had a problem ever not to mention YLOD. i even leave my ps3 on for 24 hour periods at a time. but the rate of failure is loads lower then xbox which i also own
I bought mine 2 months after release...got it fixed first time on extended warranty...now that's expired...and I'm fucked.
fuck everything, I'm walking to Blockbuster to buy a new one. Fuck. I can't just go exclusively 360 cuz all my games are PS3...I only have Bioshock and Fallout on 360. Alcohol is coming into this decision but I don't care.
as an owner of both i play and like my ps3 so much better and if you have to get another one it is worth it since looking in the future ps3 lineup and way better then xbox. come on god of war 3? lol even though i do love left for dead...
Same here. I was having problems with my Blu Ray drive and just about a month ago bought a slim. Now I have two. The old one still plays PS2 and PS1 games, regular DVDs but locks up on Blu Ray discs. I may still get it looked at to have a backup, but for now I am using the slim.
I emailed a guy I found on Kijiji who claims he can fix PS3s. If he can fix it I think I'll just sell it even though I much prefer the look of the old on sitting under my TV....

Got my 360 a month after release and have never had problems. I guess I've gotten extremely lucky. I own both consoles ps3 and xbox360 and I only use the ps3 for bluray no games that come out exclusively for the ps3 have imo been worth getting.
its funny bc own both too and feel the same the other way. i pretty much gave my xbox to my brother and i all i play is ps3. you cant tell me gow3 isnt worth getting lol.
I also have both systems and now technically own 2 PS3s. I am going to repair the broken one and use it as a Blu ray player. I haven't played the 360 really since the PS3 broke because I was a little drunk that night and impulsively went and bought a new one. I do need to finish Fallout 3 on the 360 though...and I will probably check out Alan Wake when that comes out too. Not sure what other 360 exclusives are on their way, but I don't liek Halo so I won't be getting Reach, and Mass Effect, another alien game, is just not my style either.
well that chains of olympus game for PSP wasn't anything great... but the first two are truly great games.
I've had my PS3 for a while now, I dont even know how long, at least 3 or 4 yrs and I've never had a problem.
I also bought an external fan which keeps the system pretty cool. Maybe that has something to do with it.
