I saw this on ESPN News earlier today. John Kitna says that the Lions will win at least 10 Games this coming season. .. ?
They will be improved, but that's not saying much considering they won only 3 games last year. 6, 7, 8, or 9 wins seems likely. Ths schedule is in their favor. They could start 2-0 with games against the Raiders and Vikings. They also have games against the Redskins, Buccaneers, Cardinals, Giants, and Chiefs. All those teams may be also-rans. Plus, the NFC North is not a great division right now. Last year they played well against the Patriots and Bears in December and finished the season by winning in Dallas and that was a game the Cowboys needed to win to get a better playoff seed.
Pretty sure most of the free world would have laughed just as hard if Chad said that last year. You never know with the NFL - Not like they are going to have a tough schedule.
Detroit has great receivers, Mike Martz, and absolutely nothing else. Good luck to them but I wouldn't bet the over on games won for this season.
I could see the Lions winning 10 games this year. A lot of their losses last season were last minute collapses or a loss within 7 points. Now a year under Marinelli and Martz an easier schedule things could definitely turn around. Plus a pretty weak division. I like their chances.
Ernie Sims is a pretty good young outside linebacker. The receiving corps is the Lions best unit, as you indicated. However, the defensive line has the makings of being good, also. Shaun Rogers is a very talented player. For Detroit's sake, hopefully he gets his head on straight. Cory Redding is a very good three-technique tackle. Kalimba Edwards and Dewayne White have the ability to be dependable starters on the outside.
Heck I'll buy it. They may be a losing team, but you cannot deny that they are one heck of a competing team. If we were the SOJ last season we would have looked like them. If they play hard, you'll see the Lions with some teeth.
One thing I have learned in my years as a die hard football fan... - No matter how upstream or optimistic things may seem for the Lions or Cardinals, do not expect them to win more than 6 games a year...B/c it just isn't gonna happen. (And I happen to like both teams)
the losses within 7 points dont reflect just how outplayed they were the entire season...one example: the jets game scoring within 2 minutes to get it to 7 i watched every single lions game this year(brother in law)....yea all of them(some more painful than others) and they are not terrible, but they need help everywhere...and are consistent in 0 areas they had two breakout players last season...kevin jones and roy williams...and jones broke his foot and may not make it back for the start of next season injuries completely depleted their dline last season(remeber even we ran all over them)...and across their defense so it is hard to say how good or bad the D is and the offense is led by kitna...who despite a 3 win season, never was benched for mccown bc of a martz love affair they have some talent...nothing overwhelming...just SOME talent, but if the coaching staff can get something rolling and more importantly they stay healthy than anyone....and i mean anyone in the nfc can make some noise even the lions
I watched them all season too. They had a real opportunity and were not out played in the games against The Rams, the Seahawks, the Vikings in Minny and they played the Patriots very tough. I feel really bad for Kevin Jones, who I really like. I thought he was breaking through last year before the injuries.
they have a nasty DL. corey redding and shaun rogers at DT with Shaun Cody as a rotation player. Kalimba Edwards is solid but not spectacular at DE. and they drafted Ikiakia Alma-Francis. boss bailey finally might be done getting injured, and ernie sims is a lock as a top LB if he stays healthy. only hole is MLB. their secondary is pretty booty though. they should be a 6-8 win team. but considering their division. 10 wins is possible.
Don't forget pass-rushing free agent pickup Dewayne White...Who Marinelli is familiar with from Tampa.
I was mostly impressed with both the Lions AND Cardinals with the few games I saw them play last year. I think they are both on the right track for turning things around. BTW what is the status of Boss Bailey?
Shit...my boy Eric Crouch, would win 16 game with any team, throw 30 TDs, run for 30 more, and win the Super Bowl without even picking up a playbook. (By the way, I am being completely serious...Crouch is sick)
Boss Bailey's Status: DEAD (Two many ACL tears caused him to bite the dust) ...another one bites the dust!
