i dont think this was posted. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=2431150 ? How's the rehab? Chad Pennington (shoulder), Carson Palmer (knee), Daunte Culpepper (knee) and Drew Brees (shoulder) will be the most watched rehabs this offseason. Pennington probably has the least chance to play of the three. The other three are trying to be ready for the start of the regular season. there is a good chance ramsey could be opening day starter.
Sucks for Pennington. Whenever he does make his way to the field, he will have to play good. Not average...good. This is obviously Pennington's last at bat and if he screws up he will be out. Patrick will be fine to start week one and I actually think he will do better than Penny.
Agree or disagree with him, what the hell does he know about Pennington's rehab other then the crap that we hear about it? Clayton's "inside" sources aren't that strong, trust me....
I think Ramsey is a good quarterback and could get us to the playoffs if our line holds up and our running game gets some serious yards and i dont want to hear from anyone that our defense needs help... Our defense was bad because our offense would go 3 and out every time they got on the field and the defense would never get a brake... Ramsey will be a good qb while Schottenheimer grooms clemmens into a starter because i think ramsey's contract is up after this year anyway
Bah! This is filler for John Clayton. He needed an extra 50 words to get his meal stipend for the month, so he tucked this bit of idiocy in the middle. How do we know it's filler? He didn't even bother with a perfunctory opening, "Sources say that. . . " Instead, he insulted us with "Pennington probably has the least chance. . . " and "the other three are trying to be ready. . ." As if Chad is sitting home baking pies instead of rehabbing.
I'd say about 99.5% chance that ramsey is our starter come opening day. You all know that I wanted no part of this guy and didn't want him on our team. That's in the past and as much as it will make me sick to my stomach to root for him I will. He better have a hell of a TC and preseason because we will go as far as he takes us in 06. Gawd, that last sentence almost made me throw up in my mouth.
Clayton just figured we Jets fans are feeling a little bit of Herm withdrawl after the draft went by and we didn't pick 3 safeties and 2 corners, so he threw out a little shot of obviousness, in a nostalgic sort of way.
Yea, if he had any sort of a source, he wouldnt miss the chance to tell everybody that he got this info from 'an inside source'. Hes doing the same thing people on this board do every day, speculating on things that hes not qualified to speculate about. As Pennington and the Jets staff have made a big thing of pointing out, hes got months more to rehab this time than he had last time, and last time he still started on opening day. He wasnt one hundred percent then, but hell be much closer this time around.
LOL HAHAHAH sorry, but if he starts we will be in trouble. If he does start we are a top 10 pick, but I am argueing with a person who thinks RB is our biggest need. Live and learn this team has a billion holes we will stink for a couple years.
Is there a chance Kellen starts??? No flames please, but with the new regime , I think it is possible....not probable, just possible... I hope the change of venue helps Ramsey..... Final words....At least we do not have a HC ready to give Steve DeBerg a call for a start...
We discussed this yesterday. I think Clemmens will be the starter by mid to late October. I don't think they'll throw him directly into the fire. They will give the new OLine a few weeks to gel, and then he will get his shot. The only way I see Clemmens not being the full-time QB by Christmas at the latest is if Penny somehow comes back with Favre's arm strength, and his original QB mindset. (I think I have a better chance of hitting the lotto.)
I am very optimistic that Ramsey will be the starter and the coaching staff is going to use all these tight ends and OL picks to provide excellent protection for him. I also feel that they will not be asking Ramsey to win games for us, just don't lose them and manage the clock while making smart reads. I envision them focusing on the run game ala Pitsburg. Ramsey may only have to pass 20 to 25 times a game. I think ramsy is going to surprise a lot of Jets fans... just not this one.
I have no problem with Kellen starting year one...I just think it would be a bad idea to toss him into the lineup in week one...let him learn for awhile. Perhaps he can play in Novemeber or December.
What sources could Clayton have? The Jets regime still doesn't know how Pennington will recover, so how could Clayton know?
