Thought this was kind of interesting. Unfortunately, you guessed it, no Jets, not even Vilma as it appears good ole J.C. cut the biggest corner at LB, picking Lance Briggs, Lofa Tatupu and DJ Williams to start with Karlos Dansby, Larry Izzo and Barrett Ruud backing them up. Keep in mind he took into account the salary cap, unfortunately he largely neglected the future salary cap because obviously all of these players salaries are going to increase, leading to a Redskins-esque roster purge. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=2511045 (click the link in the little black box at the top right of the article to see the roster.) P.S. I wanted to put this in the NFL forum but since there is nothing to talk about and no one really goes in there this time of year, I thought this would promote good discussion.
My complaints include: 1. The LBs are not the best money can buy. 2. The WRs are almost all midgets, wheres the redzone option? 3. Shawne Merriman at DE isn't quite fair. I feel like even in a 4-3 he would play LB like David Pollack.
Clayton is a bandwagon jumper. Plain and simple. He hates the Jets right now. But when they start winning he'll be brown nosin like the rest of em.
i hate mike clayton. He is such a flip flopper. complaints 1) Mario Williams. He costs a ton of money and has proven nothing. If mario is on the team you could argue D'Brick should be on it! 2) "four of the top five linebackers: D.J. Williams of the Broncos, Lofa Tatupu of the Seahawks, Lance Briggs of the Bears and Karlos Dansby of the Cardinals." um where the F is vilma? 3) Vince Wilfork. He deserves to be on this team (and start) ... why? again shows he is such a bandwagon guy.
You hit the nail on the head. I came up with another complaint: 4. How in the world can you justify putting rookies on your team. Especially rookies with high salaries. I mean who knows if they are at all going to succeed in the NFL. Picking 1 of the top 2-3 rookies in terms of "bust potential" won't help either. Mario Williams has so much pressure packed on him to at least meet Reggie Bush's production that Texas might collectively lynch him if he fails. Not to mention LenDale White and Marcus McNeil who fell because of major concerns about their long term health and/or legitimate attitude problems.
I could really care less what john Clayton's fantasy football team is..Although i do find it insulting that not one Jet made his list. We may not be in the top tier of team's talent wise...but are certainly nowhere NEAR as bad as many are making us out to be.
John Clayton is a little nerd, probably has scars on his back from all the wedgies he has endured....
I think it was the cap figure, but I mean come on, skip out on your $3M backup DE and take a great young LB.
Gates yes. CJ just seems like he got most of his TDs on deep plays last year. I'm looking for more of the classic 6'5", Joe Jurevicius go up and get it types.
no way you pick dansby no way he is not experienced enough and as of now isnt that good i could name 10 lbs better than him and as for lance briggs yes he is good but there are definitely better starters umm his teamate brian urlacher. charles tillman is not the player he use to be but josh bullocks will be nasty i like that sleeper
Who cares whether you care or not? You are so busy sorting through articles and work and whatnot that you have time to announce how little you care about something on an online message board. But that's cool.
Keep in mind this is bang for buck.He may have Vilma as a better player but he's probably got a bigger cap number for this year. The main problem with this team is that there are a lot of rookies or players still playing on their rookie contracts.Tommie Harris,Albert Haynesworth,Lance Briggs,Antonio Gates and Troy Polamalu will all be looking for big money contracts in the next year(i can't remember if the latter 2 have been re-signed),they won't be able to keep them all. There is also a lack of vets on the defense and all the talent is up front.
The reason he picked Lofa is that he makes a lot less money then Vilma. This wasn't about about the top players at each position, it was about finding 53 players who fit under the cap. Regardless, Lofa is a nasty player on the same level with Vilma.
He ain't on the same level as Vilma. Lofa is a good heady MLB but he can't hold a candle to Vilma in terms of athleticism.
