Hey guys, Today I go over the reality of trading John Abraham, this guy is 1st round value, and more valuable than most of the big names out there.

Beningo brought up the possibility of Putzier and the Broncos second 1st rounder for Abraham. Idk if I would do that...

I'm in the keep Abe camp. However, if we do trade him we must get AT LEAST a first round pick back. He's a top-5 pass rusher. That is a valuable commodity. Remember how we gave Hugh Douglass away to the Eagles in his prime? I don't want to see that happen again.

Putzier and the Broncos second 1st rounder is not enough in my mind. They need to get the Broncos top 1st round pick and at least another pick in the second or third round. Putzier isn't that great. Not an upgrade over Jolley/Baker.

I'd take Ashlie Lelie and their second 1st rounder. That's better value.

There's a simple mathimatical formula to figure out how effective a pass rusher is. Take total career sacks and divide by number of games played. You'll see that Abraham has better numbers than M. Strahan, L. Little, S. Rice, J. Kearse and many other renowned sack artists. Only D. Freeney is better getting to the passer at this point in their caeers.

You guys aren't thinking about this entire picture. Teams don't want to give up a 1st round pick and $20 million up front. That's a huge price to pay for a guy who is always bitching, has been injured almost every season in his career. If we get a first round pick for him that would be great. I'll be content with a 2nd and a 4th.

This is a vital point. If Abe were under a long-term contract, I'd agree with the value assessments. All that will be traded here is the right to negotiate a contract, including the huge bonus money and the corresponding cap hit. A mid eto low 1st rounder would be great under these circumstances. Don't expect more, especially now that the whole league knows that the entire relationship is so soured that there is no way he can return to us.

Right on GeshJet! I would consider us VERY lucky to get a late first, perhaps second round for Abe at this point. Yes he is a stud when healthy, and yes, he is a top 5 pass rusher when healthy, but we simply do not have nor are we making the room financially to be able to keep him. WE CANNOT AFFORD TO SIGN HIM! Simple as that. If we get anything for a player who does not have a contract, and we cannot afford to sign, then I consider that a great f*&king outcome. Abe is gone! Be happy getting anything.

i wouldn't take anything less then a first rounder.... john abe is has shown how good he is, a pro bowler. john will be ready for every game and will make plays in the game, you can't say that about any first rounders, except for maybe the top 10.

But if you decline such a trade becasue it's not enough, then what? Abe has no contract, the relationship is history and we can't afford the $8.5 M cap hit for this season.

Where did you see that??? Please link.

After they played hardball with us cause we were going to sign him last year, they got stiffed and he was going to be a cap hit.

That's absolutely enough. The Jets have to trade Abraham, anything they get like that is more then enough.

The only reason why ABE is bitching is we are kinda giving him the goat roap.
Last year we mentioned him getting a long term deal. Now with the shuffle at the top of management we are not. I think he deserves to get paid not sure about the whole 20mil ballpark. This guy is a beast if he plays and unfortunately I think if he goes to Denver that Defense will be ridiculous.Look at what Denver did last year by totally revamping there Defensive line taking 4 from the Browns (VERY BIG UNDERACHIEVERS) Gerald Warren and Courtney Brown. There D was lacking in Sacks and the Pass Rush but was lights out against the Run. Abe brings that one dimensional pass rush they need. I just hope we trade him to get a 1st rounder...even though thoes shoes will be hard to fill in the draft...

i think you are lucky if you get a first rounder for Abe-period. When he proved that he could stay healthy for all games he did NADA!!! I don't think he's a top 5 pass rusher. I'd put him behind a lot of other guys. I think if you get the Bronco's second first rounder you are lucky!!!

You guys have to understand-a team will not give up more than a first rounder and a low one at that, for 8.3 million not worth half that much Abraham.

That would be a great deal, however, that might be too much for the Broncos to consider giving up. I think the suggestion of Abe for Putzier, a 1st, and a 3rd later down in the thread is the more likely scenario.
