Lions | Harrington wants out Wed, 15 Mar 2006 11:47:36 -0800 Tom Kowalski, of mLive.com, reports Detroit Lions QB Joey Harrington has told the Lions' front office and coaching staff that he does not want to play in Detroit. The Lions have been in talks with free agent QB Josh McCown (Cardinals), which could allow the team to move Harrington.
I would take him if we're not going to take a QB in the draft. I'd rather him than Ramsey. I'd trade a second day pick for him, nothing more.
I TOTALLY used to impersonate that! Rip the chin strap off...walk a little...look back at the field...and walk to the sidline shaking the head...
Oh boy. Another reject like Jay Fiedler? Can we get him Mr. Tannebaum, please, please? I'd really like another used quarterback!
That also doesn't mean we can turn shit into gold. Everyone overrates the fact that coaches can change players. You can't take Aaron Beasley and make him into a cover corner, just like you can't take Harrington and turn him into a good decision maker.
He never had to read a defense. Tedford does all the work for his QB's in college. It's not a coincidence that all of the QB's mentored by Tedford suck in the NFL.
Harrington will never be good. Look at his supporting cast in Detroit. Mike Williams, Roy Willams, Charles Rodgers at WR. Marcus Pollard at TE. Kevin Jones at RB. If you can't excel with those players than you aren't going to excel in the NFL. I'd rather have him than Ramsey though. But i wouldn't trade anything higher than a 4th rounder for him.
I would rather take a chance spending a 6th or 7th round pick on Marcus Vick than spending the same pick on Harrington or Ramsey. Most likely all of them will fail miserably. The only upside to trading for Harrington or Ramsey is they can start if needed this year. But if thst the case I would rather go with a Sage Rosenfalls type low budget back-up as #2 and draft a developmental QB between rounds 3 and 7 as the number #3. The problem with trading for a QB or drafting a QB whether its Leniart, Cutler, Whitehurst, Vick, Ramsey or Harrington is the odds are pretty high that QB will fail at the pro level. Vick to me is intriguing because he still has the high ceiling of top round one QBs but will cost so much less. At the end of the day I would rather waste a 6th round pick on a Qb that will fail than the 4th pick in the draft or a trade 6th or 7th for Harrington or Ramsey..
