Son Scott Paterno revealed in November that the Nittany Lions’ longtime leader had a treatable form of lung cancer; that cancer took a turn for the worse today, and Paterno’s extended family is now being called to his bedside at his University Park home.

Paterno has been undergoing regular cancer treatments since his Nov. 9 firing as head coach. He’s been in and out of the hospital for the last two months.

Paterno was at the helm at Penn State for 45 years, serving from 1966 to 2011. He holds the all-time NCAA Div. I record with 409 wins.

My hero from when I was a kid, I will remember him that way. It still hasn't been confirmed by the way.

CBS probably just wanted to be the first to report it.

The world will be a better place tommorow if the news is true, I hope those victims recover and can live normal lives and not be haunted by what occured.

It will be a better place, get your head out of the football mindset and realize that Joe Paterno allowed child molestation to occur for a very long period of time. Thats sick and if anyone else did it they would be viewed as a sick person which Joe Paterno is.

How about the victims, im more worried about them then a stupid football...

How old are you, ever think of the victims? you seem to condone what Paterno allowed to happen. Who cares if he did 61 years for a Football team, allowing sexual molestation to happen erases all that. What if this happened to one of your kids? so 61 years of football means its ok for molestation to happen? helllll no....

Im done talking about this. If your going to put football above allowing molestation to happen as your priorities, then god help you.

While I can't say I supported the way Paterno handled the Sandusky issue it's sad that his health has deteriorated so fast. It's amazing to think that Bear Bryant died almost instantly after retiring as well. Maybe Bowden was smart to get out when he did. At least he'll have some time with his family and grandkids before he goes.
