So, the Pro Football Hall of Fame has released their 17 finalists for 2009/10. Check Them Out Here Wow, no Klecko again? He's the only player ever to go to the Pro Bowl in all 3 positions... 24 Sacks (When the started counting them), the cornerstone of the NYSE. PFR gives him a 91 Career Player Value. I feel as though he'll never get in, and that dissapoints me. Not even a finalist.
It's one of those things that will never be corrected. But, Klecko knows he belongs.... because the guys he used to play against have told him so. You know what I would like to see? When one of the guys that played against Klecko gets voted in, and during his acceptance speech says something about it. Then the NFL HoF voters can shove it.
Klecko will get in in 30 years when some veterans committee takes a look at what a flaming mess the Jets were from 1970 to 1996 in virtually all the years except the ones he played in. 1982 is the only exception and that was a completely messed up year all on its own because of the strike. It's a fact that players who have injury shortened careers in which they never get to a Super Bowl are often snubbed by the hall of fame voters, particularly when they have trouble with the law after they retire. It's not fair but it's true.
klecko will get in after rex shakes hands with obama and the jets are what the cowboys, 9'rs, and pitt 'used' to be.
The exclusion of Klecko from serious consideration, and the fact that Ray Guy is blackwalled from the Hall of Fame just clearly highlights the fact that the sportswriters that have a stanglehold on the selections need to cede their power and a new system created. King and his associates are incompetent.
Dick LeBeau retired as the all time interceptions leader for the NFL...He's also as a coach been innovative as the designer of the zone blitz and won championships as a coordinator. He is finally up for nomination this year on the final ballot. So yeah I can agree that the voting system seems to have major flaws.
24 sacks ? That can't be right...he had 20 or 21 in 1981, the year of the NY Sack Exchange...when did they star the counting ? Had to get 4-5 a year for the next 5 years or so.
Unfortunately for him, they only started counted sacks from '82 on. The year of the strike. He had four or five, during a nine game season. I wish there was a way they could go back and count the sacks from uncounted years. He'd have so much more than 24. Don't forget, this is a guy who's career was cut short by injuries. But not just for the sacks, he's the only player EVER in NFL history to enter the Pro Bowl playing three seperate positions. That just goes to show you how talented he was. Not only that, but this is a guy who took pride in, and loved being a Jet.
