This didn't age too well. This move reeks of panic hire to me. Missed out on their top 3 guys (McCarthy, Rhule, and McDaniels?) so they quickly pivot to this.
Report is that Rhule gave the Giants the chance to match the offer from the Panthers, and they declined. If true, that would seem to make it pretty obvious that Gettleman’s fingerprints are all over this in terms of protecting his job. I have a hunch that disagreements between Tisch and Mara played a part too. Pretty shocking.
I actually don't think it's a terrible hire. He has a good pedigree as he worked with Saban as well. Ever since Harbaugh was hired and successful with the Ravens I've been waiting for the trend of special teams coordinators to be hired and it's never happened. I don't get why the Giants made this obvious panic hire so quickly though. All the top candidates are gone and the only job left is the Browns. It seems like you could've taken your time at this point.
We should have started that trend with westhoff instead of Bowles. As far as this hire, I expect another coach off the belichick tree to not work out.
Rhule wanted full control apparently. No one other then the Panthers gave Rhule that option, you have to wonder if hes really worth the price of admission.
And now Jason Garrett is being brought in to interview for the OC job. Get as much guaranteed money as you can Joe - you’re on the clock! Stephen A. Smith going bonkers on TV about how all of these guys are white.
Never heard of him before. Didn't hear his name mentioned as a candidate for any other openings. How did they pull his name out of their behinds? They should've gone with Jason Garrett.
People are probably worried if the brains behind KC are Reid or EB. It all depends on how much EB has learned from Reid.
