Welcome to the hot seat Joe Douglas. Of course there's zero chance he'll get fired, but IMO he should be. He's presided over a reign of total dysfunction, pissing off multiple players, making several personnel mistakes, and worst of all enabling Gase to ruin Darnold. It could have been forgiven if it were part of a master plan to get the first pick and draft Lawrence, but clearly Douglas either didn't have that intention, in which case he's shortsighted, or he's unable to stand up for himself in the Jets organization. Yeah maybe the Jets will somehow luck into the top pick or luck into a franchise QB some other way, but any attempts Douglas has had at making the Jets competent or putting together a long-term plan have ended in embarassing failures. Also, I'm not turning in my fan card yet, but there's a very real chance I will soon.
GMs plan for the future. HCs (and players) do ALL THEY CAN to win every game. Never the two shall mix.
Well he appears to have drafted well, and he doesn’t have the authority to fire Gase. He also would be under investigation if he was caught intentionally crippling the Jets’ chances of winning. So I’m confused what your post is getting at...
My point exactly. How can I be confident in his ability to build a football team when he's incapable of taking control of the situation and ensuring the Jets get the one guy who would have probably guaranteed his employment for the next decade?
No, what's stupid is to think Gase or the players would actually TRY to lose a game. That's what's stupid.
I'd have to agree. It would be a very bad thing for the franchise if the people on the field were actively trying to lose. It sets a bad culture that would be hard to turn around. I don't fault Gase and the team for trying to win. That's what they should be doing.
I don’t expect them to try to loose. Fuck that. But JD can strip them down to rookies and softmores to “see what we have”. Morgan and a practice squad RB could have been in this game instead
He's drafted alright, Becton, Mims, and Mann look good, everyone else looks bad. And why doesn't he have the authority to fire Gase? Because Chris Johnson says he can't? He needs to go to Chris Johnson and make Johnson let him fire Gase, or at the very least control the personnel so the Jets don't win. Even something like making the Jets start Morgan, which is actually reasonable and wouldn't have resulted in any investigations.
I blame Joe for the roster that made this the worst Jets team in history. One of worst NFL teams in history. But I agree players and coaches don’t play to lose, that’s fan nonsense.
I don't blame Gase or the players for trying to win. I blame Douglas for not making Chris Johnson let him overrule Gase on personnel.
