I just watched the first ever season of Hard Knocks again, don’t ask me why. It features one Joe Douglas 20 years younger, with the shittiest job in the organization. Collecting the players about to be cut.... The man has come a long way.
No wonder JD refused the Johnsons' first ten offers. He has all that experience looking into the eyes of men who weren't good enough.
Back in the "glory days" of the NFL players used to stay in the dorms of the college campuses their teams were training at. This is before the days when teams built the grand training facilities we see today. Anyway, "The Turk" had the unsettling job of summoning the players that didn't make the cut to the office to be officially released (cut) by the team. He was the most feared man on campus during those last few days of training camp. Everyone dreaded hearing the knock of "The Turk" on their door.
He was the most feared man, and also the most miserable. You had to walk around crushing the dreams of hard working players... You could see it in Joe Douglas’ eyes no doubt.
