This is the second mock I've posted this year... Any feedback is appreciated.. ROUND I 1. St. Louis: Sam Bradford QB This one seems obvious. Unless the Rams fall in love with Colt McCoy this will be the pick. 2. Detroit: Ndamukong Suh DT I’ve seen Russell Okung projected here and while that makes sense too, Suh is a rare talent and Okung isn’t on that level. The Lions should find a quality left tackle in the 2nd round though. 3. Tampa Bay: Gerald McCoy DT Need = best value. End of story 4. Washington: Jimmy Clausen QB The Redskins previous regime obviously wasn’t too faithful in Jason Campbell. New regimes often mean a new QB. 5. Kansas City: Russell Okung OT The best player on the board is probably Eric Berry, but Okung isn’t far off and fills a major need. 6. Seattle: CJ Spiller RB An interesting choice here with some top tackles left, but Spiller looks like a rare playmaker and might not be around at #14 so they get him here knowing they can get a top tackle eight picks later 7. Cleveland: Eric Berry DB Berry is a great value, versatile, and fills a major need 8. Oakland: Bruce Campbell OT I’ve had trouble believing the Raiders would be naïve enough to select Campbell here with Bulaga on the board, but there are always surprises and this would be a moderate one 9. Buffalo: Bryan Bulaga OT It’s a wonder Bulaga fell here, but since he did it’s a no-brainer 10. Jacksonville: Dez Bryant WR A bit of a risk, but if he turns out to be a number one caliber receiver it will pay huge dividends. 11. Denver: Rolando McClain ILB The Broncos could use help at ILB and McClain is a natural 3-4 linebacker 12. Miami: Earl Thomas DB A high-riser, Thomas is a big-time playmaker and potential star 13. San Francisco: Joe Haden CB Fills a need and Haden is an all-around great cornerback 14. Seattle: Trent Williams OT And the plan works. They get Spiller and a top left tackle prospect 15. NY Giants: Sean Weatherspoon LB It seems like the Giants are always looking for a linebacker and this year’s no exception. Weatherspoon is ultra-talented and could start immediately 16. Tennessee: Derrick Morgan DE A great value here and after losing Vanden Bosch this seems like a great fit 17. San Francisco: Mike Iupati OT/OG The 49ers need help at tackle and guard and Iupati can play either and is a solid value actually 18. Pittsburgh: Kyle Wilson CB Another guy who’s moving up boards, Wilson has been rated ahead of Haden by some teams 19. Atlanta: Brandon Graham DE The highly productive end will certainly upgrade the highly disappointing Jamaal Anderson 20. Houston: Ryan Matthews RB Another fast riser, Matthews could be a nice compliment to Steve Slaton 21. Cincinnati: Dan Williams DT Williams has been projected as high 9th overall, but the Bengals would be happy to land this potential nose tackle here 22. New England: Jared Odrick DL Apparently the Pats are high on Odrick and it makes sense since he’s a prototypical 3-4 end 23. Green Bay: Anthony Davis OT Perhaps the most talented tackle in the class, his character and intangible concerns let him fall here, but the Packers could use some youth and talent on the outside 24. Philadelphia: Maukrice Pouncey OG/C Pouncey could probably even go as high as the top 15, but he falls here to the Eagles who need interior line help 25. Baltimore: Jermaine Gresham TE A great value here, Gresham could put this group of receivers over the top along with the addition of Anquan Boldin 26. Arizona: Jerry Hughes OLB/DE Another name who could get called earlier than expected, the Cardinals could use some youth at OLB and Hughes is thought to be a good fit. 27. Dallas: Nate Allen S Yes, he was taken over Mays. Allen is by FAR the all around better player and looks like a future star 28. San Diego: Terrence Cody DL With not many glaring needs, the Chargers go for the massive nose tackle prospect. 29. NY Jets: Sergio Kindle OLB/DE A nice value here and a need, Kindle is a terrific pass-rusher and looks like a natural fit at OLB 30. Minnesota: Jason McCourty CB The Vikings also don’t have many needs, but with Cedric Griffin set to miss some time next season, a CB is needed. Plus Winfield isn’t getting any younger 31. Indianapolis: Jason Pierre-Paul DE A bit of a fall for Paul and an odd choice, but this is a great value and the Colts have nothing behind Freeney and Mathis. The fall is due to teams not wanting to invest top money in a very inexperienced player 32. New Orleans: Daryl Washington OLB And Washington sneaks into the first. A great player with great workout numbers, Washington fills a need here ROUND II 33. St Louis: Golden Tate WR 34. Detroit: Charles Brown OT 35. Tampa Bay: Eversen Griffen DE 36. Kansas City: Cam Thomas DT 37. Washington: Jared Veldheer OT 38. Cleveland: Roger Saffold OT/OG 39. Oakland: Taylor Mays S 40. San Diego: Vladimir Ducasse OT/OG 41. Buffalo: Demaryius Thomas WR 42. Tampa Bay: Kareem Jackson CB 43. Miami: Koa Misi OLB/DE 44. New England: Donald Butler ILB 45. Denver: Alex Carrington DE 46. NY Giants: Mike Johnson OG/OT 47. New England: Anthony McCoy TE 48. Carolina: Arrelious Benn WR 49. San Francisco: Jahvid Best RB 50. Kansas City: Ricky Sapp OLB/DE 51. Houston: Amari Spievy CB 52. Pittsburgh: Eric Norwood OLB/DE 53. New England: Tim Tebow QB/?? 54. Cincinnati: Dorin Dickerson TE 55. Philadelphia: Patrick Robinson CB 56. Green Bay: Akwasi Owusu-Ansah CB 57. Baltimore: Corey Wootton DE 58. Arizona: Tony Washington OT 59. Dallas: Tyson Alualu DE 60. Seattle: Brandon LaFell WR 61. NY Jets: Andre Roberts WR 62. Minnesota: Torrell Troup DT 63. Indianapolis: JD Walton C 64. New Orleans: Austen Lane DE ROUND III 65. St Louis: Carlos Dunlap DE 66. Detroit: Chris Cook DB 67. Tampa Bay: Eric Decker WR 68. Kansas City: Montario Hardesty RB 69. Oakland: Brian Price DT 70. Philadelphia: Thaddeus Gibson OLB 71. Cleveland: Colt McCoy QB 72. Buffalo: Jarrett Brown QB 73. Miami: Linval Joseph DT 74. Jacksonville: CJ Wilson DE 75. Chicago: Sean Lee ILB 76. NY Giants: Toby Gerhart RB 77. Tennessee: Jerome Murphy CB 78. Carolina: Aaron Hernandez TE 79. San Francisco: Darrell Stuckey S 80. Denver : Damian Williams WR 81. Houston: Lamarr Houston DT 82. Pittsburgh: Jason Worlids OLB/DE 83. Atlanta: Dekoda Watson OLB 84. Cincinnati: Robert Johnson S 85. Cleveland: Pat Angerer ILB 86. Green Bay: Roddrick Muckelroy OLB 87. Philadelphia: Major Wright S 88. Arizona: Jimmy Graham TE 89. Arizona: Myron Lewis DB 90. Dallas: Kyle Calloway OT 91. San Diego: Jonathan Dwyer RB 92. Cleveland: Jon Asamoah OG 93. Minnesota: Navorro Bowman OLB 94. Indianapolis: Corey Peters DT 95. New Orleans: James Starks RB 96. Cincinnati: Mardy Gilyard WR 97. Tennessee: Ciron Black OL 98. Atlanta: Rob Gronkowski TE
- I know alot of people dislike Mays but he isn't falling past MIN at 30 IMO. Allen isn't going over Mays at this point, Mays hasn't done anything to kill his stock recently. - I think Cincy would take Mays if not they'd go for a guard so Pouncey would make sense here. Possible to see a DT going to them but I think they have enough trust in Tank and Peko. - As much as Houston could use a back, I don't think Kubiak goes for one in round 1 unless Spiller fell big time. They could use Dan Williams in fact to have a DT next to Okoye. Like the 2 Jets picks though and the rest of the 1st round looks good to me or at least have a shot of happening. I have different players in rounds 2 and 3 but its nit picking at that point.
I disagree about Mays. I'm very high on Allen and could be one of those guys who gets taken in the first round that most didn't foresee... He has a very well-rounded game and IMO is a MUCH better prospect than Taylor Mays. Of course, it just takes one team to fall in love with his numbers and big-hitting ability and put aside his weaknesses in coverage, tackling, and making plays. Also, you're right that with all of the Denver background that Houston might not take a RB.. But with all of the money invested in the defensive line inclduing a couple recent first round picks, I don't see them using another pick on a DT... I could absolutely see a DB though.
I really think they're going to take Mathews. In fact, I think they'd take him over Spiller. Mathews is the perfect compliment to Slaton. They could use some size inside at tackle, but I doubt Williams lasts that long.
It's funny isn't it.. Holmgren swears he's not going to select a QB, but I wouldn't completely believe him.. With that being said, I have a feeling he'll pass on Clausen and he'll fall to Buffalo. However, I could definitely see Buffalo trading up to get him, maybe with Washington who would undoubtedly like to move down and get their second round pick plus back. IMO this is the most likely trade at this point. I wouldn't even be surprised if Jacksonville or some other team with a mid/late round pick moves up considerably far if he gets past Seattle and Cleveland...
Yep. Not the end of the world, though. Just shift Okung to Washington, Berry to KC, and Clausen to Cleveland. Unless there's a trade, of course.
I wouldn't be so sure about that. I've heard that scouts at his Pro Day, including our own DB coach, had serious concerns about Mays as a viable S prospect due to how stiff he is and how much of a liability he can be in coverage.
IMO, I don't see how he's worth a high pick except for his triangle numbers and ability to be an enforcer of the secondary (not play-maker)... Nate Allen is a much better prospect. It only takes one, but Mays' question marks outweigh his strengths, making him a 2nd round pick in my book.
Yes. Mays looked awfully stiff at the combine and didn't show any natural ability in coverage which most likely scared off alot of GM's. If he makes it past Minnesota in Rd.1, I can see him falling quite a bit in Rd. 2.
Yeah, and with the way the rules have limited hard defensive hits, he's going to suffer the same problems as Roy Williams. I quoted it earlier, but Petros Papadakis interviewed Dennis Thurman at the USC Pro Day. He asked about Taylor Mays, and Dennis Thurman said "Well, he sure is explosive." Petros said "What about his hips?" and Thurman responded "Uh, no comment." I talked to a few people I know who were at the Pro Day, one of whom was a guest of the school and on the field. He said it didn't seem like any of the scouts came away too impressed.
I would agree with you 100%.... But at 6-3 230 and an alleged 4.24 40-time, I know one team that probably won't let him pass... Otherwise I'd say it's quite possible. His coaches can't give him a good endorsement.. That's just an awful sign I'll bet he's an OLB on a lot teams' boards
