http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2009/03/checking-out-another-qb.html In an interview with Daily News colleague Ralph Vacchiano tonight on Sirius Radio, Sam Houston State QB Rhett Bomar said he had a private workout with Jets officials shortly after the scouting combine last month. Bomar actually began his college career at Oklahoma, but he was tossed out in 2006 for breaking some NCAA rules. He landed at Sam Houston, where he made himself a likely draft pick. He isn't highly rated; most scouting services have him listed as the fifth- to seventh-best quarterback, which means he'll probably be a late-round pick. Hey, but he has a great name -- Rhett Bomar. Sounds like a quarterback name, doesn't it? So far, the Jets have conducted private withouts with at least two quarterbacks -- Bomar and Kansas State's Josh Freeman -- and they're scheduled for a workout with USC's Mark Sanchez. That, I'm guessing, could be next week, when the Jets' honchos are in California for the owners' meetings in Dana Point. Oh, by the way, Bomar's agent is Bus Cook, the same guy who represents Brett Favre and Jay Cutler. If the Jets draft Bomar, we can only assume they'll be a big off-season firestorm at some point in his career. Bomar told our man Vacchiano that he recently visited Favre at his home in Mississippi. Ralph tried to get Bomar to dish something that Favre told him about the Jets, but Bomar didn't bite. It was worth a shot. Us media types like to report these private workouts, but the truth of the matter is, it doesn't mean the team really wants to pick that player. There are hundreds of private workouts each spring and, in most cases, the team is simply on a fact-finding mission. So let's not put too much emphasis on these workouts.
Rhett Bomar would have stole some of Tim Tebow's thunder by being a beasty running white qb with a cannon for an arm. obviously his decision making skills are questionable and the last thing the jets need is a "project" at QB. If he can be drafted in the 7th round or picked up as an UDFA then whatever who cares im sure theres room for a ball boy around training camp.
yeh I wouldn't take a flyer on him, too risky, even for a 6th, I hope we look at Brandstater for the 7th
Brandstater is terrible. I was very high on him at the beginning of the college football season, but I have completely changed my mind. He's just a guy that came into college with loads of potential and never put it together. As a Fresno State fan, I'm so fucking glad he's gone... - Not a leader: Fresno's returning wideouts are glad he's gone... - Frail: Almost every time he got hit, he rolled on the ground and whined...then yelled at his offensive linemen. - Never put up big numbers in an offense that is known for producing great passing and rushing numbers. - I honestly don't know if he can throw a touch pass. I will give him this -- he had to learn a new offense each season because Fresno can't keep a steady OC.
