    Jets Waive S Celestin

    http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/

The New York Jets announced today that safety Oliver Celestin was waived. The announcement was made by General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Celestin, 25, concluded his second season with the Jets in 2005. The product of Texas Southern University was signed by the Jets on November 9, 2004 off of the Minnesota Vikings? practice squad. The former undrafted rookie free agent signee of the Cleveland Browns in 2003 gained a foothold in professional football by playing in NFL Europe for the Berlin Thunder in 2004 and then signed as a free agent with the Vikings before being waived and signing to their practice squad in 2004.

With the Jets (2004-2005), Celestin played in 20 regular season games and recorded 31 tackles and one pass defensed on defense, including a career-high 26 tackles in 2005. On special teams, the New Orleans native added 16 special teams tackles, as well as one forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Celestin also appeared in both of the Jets? postseason games, playing primarily on special teams, in their 2004 postseason run.

Not such a big deal, we have a lot of solid young safeties and there wasn't much room for him on the roster.

There is Rhodes, Washington, Maddox, and Coleman. Maddox was hurt all last year. So it is a little thin back there.

But I am glad he is gone. I was not all that impressed with him anyway.

Remember that one of them is really the long snapper....and we need him.

And Chris Baker is a FA who we may not have the cap room to sign.

Good riddance. Hated his coverage skills for a safety.

dressen is the other LS. James "Girth" Dearth is probably going to be cut. I hope anyway, I think we save about $750k

With Maddox being healthy this year, Celestin really isn't needed.

ALOT? Our safety squad isn't that great right now. Outside of Coleman and Rhodes we only have Washington (unproven commodity outside of ST).

    Where's the rest?

I liked Celestin more than I liked Coleman. However I don't think he'll be a good zone corner which I think Mangini is going to incorporate so it's not a big loss.

Celestin, say hello to Kansas City...

He was a Herm project anyway.

That's a shame. Celestin played as well as Rhodes did for the Jets and I don't really understand cutting him. He isn't good enough in coverage to be a starter but at the very least he is an excellent special teamer who hits like a truck.
