The Jets have a history of making first time QBs look like Pro Bowlers. Let's hope the trend doesn't continue this week.

Buffalonians are looking for reasons to have some hope this weekend and here's what the Democrat and Chronicle had to say on Trent Edwards:

There are a number of reasons to expect Edwards to play better this week.

First and foremost, he's not playing the Patriots. He's facing the Jets, who have had their defensive struggles this season, ranking 28th in both total yards and passing yards, 27th in points allowed and 31st in first downs allowed while recording just one sack and one takeaway in three games.

He'll be playing at home, where it will be easier to communicate with his teammates.

He'll have a full week of practice as the starter, getting reps with the rest of the first team, building camaraderie and synchronizing their timing.
"He'll be better prepared; there's no question about that," said Jauron. "In terms of performance, that will be decided on Sunday. Our game is about performance; that's the deal. I believe he'll perform, and certainly I believe he'll perform over time, but right now he's awfully young."

Lots of truism to this. Look back to Jim Zorn in Sea say 20 years ago!

All true, but he'll probably be really nervous making his first actual start. Anyway, if we can't beat these guys then we're crap.

How about Dave Krieg too? I think he made his first start against the Jets with Seattle and looked like a Hall of Famer. Of course take into consideration that in the seventies and early eighties the Jets couldn't buy a win against Seattle, no matter who was the QB.

I expect us to get better in all areas this week and although I always go into Buffalo games with trepidation I fully expect us to win well.

I had the same feeling the second I heard Loserman was injured. We know Buffalo is go to run, why we can't stop it and their starting QB is out. I hope Mangini throws run blitz's at Buffalo's D all day. It will help stop the run, press the pocket and help stop the damn screen!

We’re fine – our defense is spectacular and out coach is a genius.

So what the Jets did 20 years ago is a direct effect on this team?

And, BTW who cares? Regular season games are meaningless.

The worst example of this in recent history was Akili Smith during his last year as a bengal , he was throwing all over us and looked like an all pro- we eventually won 15-14 or something like that but its true!

Trent Edwards might be a good fantasy league pickup just for a week

I fully expect him to throw for 250-300yds 2 TD's at minimum

FantasyGuru is the source I use for FF. It has Chad @ 10 between Kitna and Garcia, and Edwards @ 25 between Leinart and Alex Smith.

Both teams' RBs are good choices for sure though. Jones @ 4 and Leon @ 34...Lynch is @ 16

Ugh, indeed. Just going back to last year, remember in that Miami X-mas game when Cleo F'ing Lemon came in?

He looked like Marino, driving all the way down the field for a TD.

From what I recall, Losman actually did have a lot of success against this putrid D, and Buff's D usually gives Chad a lot of trouble.

So I am nervous about this Sunday.

Speaking of Seattle, wasn't the 98 game Jon Kitna's first or second start? We were very fortunate to win by a helmet. I guess Kitna didn't have Jesus on his side back then.

I saw most of Edwards' college games since he went to my alma mater. He was occasionally brilliant. but spent most of the time getting pounded by opposing defenses and throwing to walk on receivers when his starters were injured. I've seen him more than anyone else on this board and have no idea what to expect. He has great tools for an NFL QB, but little experience playing with talent around him.

Zorn was 30 years ago, champ's last good year was 20 years ago.

EDIT: I had a better line here but I don't want to get banned during the season.

Two weeks in a row vs QBs named Trent. That has to be the first time in NFL history that's happened. And its every bit as relevant as comparing different rookie QB starts from years past. I didn't say it wasn't fun to bring up, just irrelevant.

Dilfer and Green could have come up back-to-back on someone's schedule at some point. Now facing a Tavaris two weeks in a row? That would be a first.
