A big travel week for the Jets already has begun, and by the end of their cross-country tour they hope to have answers to their urgent quarterback queries: Which of the big three do they take if they have the chance in the April 29 draft? Or do they take none at all?

The Jets, with the fourth overall selection, sent a group of team officials Sunday to Nashville, Tenn., to visit with Jay Cutler of Vanderbilt.

Tuesday, they are expected to meet with Southern California's Matt Leinart, not to mention Leinart's superb running back teammate, Reggie Bush, who's expected to be taken first overall by Houston.

An NFL source said from there the Jets' party will fly up the West Coast to Eugene, Ore., for a Wednesday workout of Oregon QB Kellen Clemens, who has risen rapidly up the charts this off-season into second-round territory on some draft boards.

Then Thursday, Gang Green will arrive in Houston to visit with Vince Young. Even though it is believed the Jets' interest is not as strong in Young as in Leinart and Cutler, the Texas star is interested in New York and will try to convince the Jets they need him.

General manager Mike Tannenbaum went to Nashville for the visit with Cutler, although it is not known if coach Eric Mangini was on the first leg of the trip or if the top two Jets will make all the rest of the stops this week.

Talk early in the off-season was that the Jets might be interested in trading up with either the Texans at No. 1 or the Saints at No. 2, but with two weeks until the draft, the word is that they are not looking to trade up.

It's unlikely, but not impossible that Leinart will slip to four, which would give the Jets their most difficult draft decision. Some experts insist the Jets must and will take Leinart if he's there. Others say Leinart, based less on his brilliant college career and more on his Senior Bowl, combine and private workouts, has been overvalued.

The Jets are exploring non-QB options as well, visiting with other potential fourth picks such as Virginia Tech offensive tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson and North Carolina State defensive end Mario Williams.
