http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...-edwards-before-cromartie?module=HP_headlines Sources have told NFL Network analyst Michael Lombardi that the New York Jets are willing to let cornerback Antonio Cromartie explore free agency this offseason. The Jets hope to re-sign wide receivers Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards first because they want to maintain continuity on their offense, and they believe surrounding quarterback Mark Sanchez with Holmes and Edwards is essential, according to the source. All three players are eligible for unrestricted free agency once the NFL and its players' union agree to a new collective bargaining agreement. The current deal expires March 3. Cromartie, who was acquired from the San Diego Chargers after the 2009 season for a conditional third-round draft choice in 2011 that could rise to a second-rounder, tied for the Jets' lead with three interceptions in 2010. He added 42 tackles. He has been outspoken on his Twitter account about topics ranging from Jets opponents, especially Tom Brady and Hines Ward, and the NFL's labor situation. On Thursday, he was at it again, this time tweeting about his upcoming free agency: "U know I could careless about a rumor because as of now and until me and my business partners are told otherwise I'm a JET to the end. Gang Green baby. Plus it's just a rumor. Lol" Edwards led the Jets with seven touchdown catches and was second in receptions with 53. Holmes, who also was acquired after the 2009 season from the Pittsburgh Steelers for a fifth-round pick in the 2010 draft, was second in touchdown catches (six) and third in receptions (52) despite sitting out the first four games of the regular season due to a suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. This would be great!
I pray this is accurate and actually plays out this way. I would love to keep everyone but the WRs are much more important to this team right now. We drafted Wilson in the first round so now he needs to play like a first rounder. Hope that kid is working as we speak.
this worries me a little i think i would rather have one or the other and resign cro revis wilson coleman just doesn't inspire me imo
This has already been refuted by Mehta on his twitter: twitter.com/TheJetsStream/statuses/38051657652764672 yay for not being able to post links.
I'd be happy with this. I'd love to keep all three, but out of the three, I'd let Cro walk first. I thought he did a pretty good job this year, don't get me wrong. I think he's more replaceable than the other two. If our head coach weren't a defensive mind, I might say otherwise. I think Rex can figure something out if Cro left.
Brilliant news, really like this tandem. On the flipside, Cros play was up and down all year, BUT he did player alot better when Revis was out, interestingly.
good news IMO. Cromartie was one of the 4 (Harris, Braylon, Holmes, Cro) that I would be most willing to part with. These 2 WRs are essential for the growth of Sanchez.
Or you could get a guy like Eric Wright who's pretty good and likely to be much cheaper. You can't bring back everybody.
Lito Sheppard was effective as the #2 corner for this team. Cro or Aso is not necessary. Any outside fan that looks at this board must think we are all retards. OH NOEZ! WE NEED ASO TO REPLACE CRO!
Not really. I mean, what teams have 2 ELITE/Top 5 corners? This is more about Sanchez growth in his third year. All we need is a decent pass rush(cmon draft!), revis on one side, and extra safety help on the other, and we should be fine.
Let's put it on the line RIGHT NOW!!! Cromartie is Overrated....plain and simple. Cro is a fantastic athlete, but is an average to good #2 CB in the NFL. Isn't physical enough and has looked suspect in coverage this year. Makes a good play and than 2 terrible plays. The physicval skills Cromartie has doesn't translate to the field and his play. There isn't enough money to go around and Cromartie wants a big payday. I could see the Jets signing another player and giving Kyle Wilson the opportunity to start. Holmes and Edwards are far more important to the Jets and the development of our QB.
