I was reading a PFW newspaper (about a week old) yesterday and saw that he was a free agent. It said that Keisel did such a good job replacing him that the Steelers wouldnt resign him. Oelhoffen was a key cog in their 3-4 and if he comes here then Im sure well make the switch to a 3-4 immediately

A little old but I could see him being valuable for a few years.

I didn't include it because that was posted in the Culpepper thread.

I dont see a good match with us, he's 35 and would be a backup in the 3-4

He's a solid player and all, but going after him doesn't make sense. Didn't the Jets just get rid of Mawae to build a younger team? Why are they targeting old fellers like Oelhoffen and McGinest? Also, isn't Oelhoffen more in the mold of Ellis, as in solid run stopper but not much of a force in pass rushing? I'd think a more dire issue would be helping the pass rush. Maybe Mangini just needs to fill a 3-4 end spot.

Being married to a :steelers: fan, I've seen alot of Kimo. Nice fit if we can get him IMO.

Dude, it is IMPERATIVE that we make the switch to 3-4 immediately. I love this stuff. These guys are going for it, they we to rebuild correctly, and you don't drag your feet in doing so, unless you want more than the standard 1 year of non-competitive play.

I'd rather sign Washington and let D-Rob play end if we're bringing in a veteran, I'm not too high on this guy at all. It definetly points to us switching to a 3-4 though.

IMO thats what it is. 3-4 DEs are hard to come by, and regardless of what this board says, Robertson isnt one of them. With all the moves weve made this offseason with our coaching staff it seems to me that a change to the 3-4 is imminent. I envision us picking him up as a stopgap, and then drafting a guy that we can groom to play the 3-4 in a few years. And Robertson would play NT

Mawae is a different situation. His release wasn't based on age, or money. He's outspoken, and has a history with coaches (Groh), and that's something Mangini doesn't need as a rookie head coach. von Oelhoffen and McGinest are not outspoken guys, and they are considered some of the best team players in the entire NFL. Those two guys are exactly what Mangini will look for in a defensive player, on and off the field, despite their age.

I'm not sure if Robertson can play NT at all, I think he'd really struggle there. I don't see how a 3-4 really helps our defense, Vilma won't be as good there, Dewayne couldn't do anything without Ferg clogging the middle next to him, he certainetly won't be able to do it by himself. Ellis also needs another pass rusher to take some pressure off him, Kemo isn't that. If we do go to a 3-4 though, I wouldn't be as dissapointed with this signing if we get Arrington.

I actually would love this signing...we can't go ALL youth...we need a few Vets in there or else the rooks would just get killed and thats not what you want...you want youth, but you also want experience in there somewhere...

Kimo would be a great fit.

I don't think there was ever any doubt we would switch, but I do believe we will be using a little bit of everything.

Like Mangini says..."we will play the defense that gives us the best chance to win that particular week."

I believe him to. 3-4 will be our base defense though IMO
