Who is this Grubbs guy? First I've heard of him? Also, as we don't have a 4th round pick I wonder if we'll really wait that long to pick up our #3 WR.
That was the blandest report I have read in years. Cimini seems to have given up on investigative reporting. If the FO does not give the info on a platter it seems then he feels he doesn't need to work for it. If I was his boss we would have a long talk about that weak report. Who do they like at right tackle? What about at corner? Any of the WR that they like late? Here is the take on grubbs: Scouts inc has him as the 32 best prospect in the draft. Ben Grubbs OG | (6'3", 305, 5.2) | AUBURN Scouts Grade: 90 View by: Round | Player | NCAA School | Position | NFL Team | Flag | All Ranked Players | NFL Draft History You are signed into Insider and have access to the exclusive draft content below. Strengths: Possesses adequate height and bulk. Not massive, but a thick, sturdy build. Displays impressive quickness, body control and overall mobility. Fires out of his stance quickly and shows good initial pop at the point of attack. He displays the agility to consistently reach the second-level as a run blocker and he also does a good job of hitting the moving target in space. He has a quick set in pass pro and shows the ability to mirror and slide with more athletic pass rushers. Versatile and durable performer throughout his career. Continues to improve with more experience at the position and still has much room to grow. Weaknesses: Lacks a massive build and will give up some ground to bigger, stronger bull rushers. Also will have some trouble getting a surge vs. two-gap run plugging types. Shows room to improve in terms of his footwork, hand-placement and angles. Overall: Grubbs was redshirted in 2002 while practicing as a defensive tackle. He was converted to a blocking tight end before the 2003 season and appeared in nine games. Grubbs then moved from tight end to guard before spring practice in 2004 and became the Tigers' starter for 13 games that season. He returned as a starting guard for the entire 2005 season (12 games) as well. Grubbs started all 13 games at left guard in 2006. Grubbs was a late-rising prospect that spent time at defensive tackle and tight end before finding a home at offensive guard for Auburn. He emerged as one of the most dominant interior offensive linemen in the country in 2006, displaying ideal quickness, power and toughness. It wouldn't be surprising for Grubbs to come off the 2007 draft board late in the first round or early in the second round.
Those weaknesses are pretty glaring and almost mirror the problems we are seeing with Moore now, albeit without stupid penalties. I'll pass on this guy- seems like a bit of a reach from our position.
I'd still like to see a solid RT in the 1st Round to help our new RB combination and help Chad's signature short-passing game, although maybe if the right Guard comes to us... Then maybe a legitimate, solid, heavier-than-Robertson NT on the D-Line so we could move DRob over again. I know he had a good 2nd half of the season but I still think he would really turn on if the NT responsibility were taken off his back. So I guess any combination of the above is okay with me for our first two or even three picks (to address both lines), providing the right personnel fall to us and we don't have to make any ridiculous reaches. After that, and only after that, should we go for a WR, IMO.
If we're going to take a guard, I'd rather take Blalock. Either that, or wait and hope Ramirez is on the board in the 3rd.
we gotta nab one of these guys. i think we should take ramirez with our late 2nd pck(which is essentially a 3rd rder) he wont last till the 25th pick of the 3rd rd. my guess is hes gone in the first 10. im hoping we can get one of the top 20 WR/CB talents. there will be some good LB's and DL taken in the top 20 so someone will fall. Aaron Ross or Meachem would be delightful. but if all of the legit 1st rd wr's and corners are gone Id jump on Blalock if there. theres plenty of directions to go. all we know is DT and RB wont be addressed on the first day. thats just my opinion.
