    whooptie do!

I guess stockpiling backups is a good thing to add depth, but this isn't exactly an exciting signing.

At least now everyone can stop whining that we haven't done a thing in FA!

    True.

I should really be more optimistic.

Its not an exciting signing but is one that can pay dividends during the season. If nothing else he is an excellent special teams player but he has experience on the inside and outside in a 3-4 and is hungry for playing time on D. Not the sexy signing that everyone is looking for but a solid move IMO..

Well the problem with this addition if it happens is that Chatham said he'd only sign if he can start. So if he signs, does he play inside alongside vilma? or does a olb lose their spot.?????? How good is he anyways? If his stats tell the story hes not that good. maybe its upside?

I am excited to see this guy bring his 9 tackles from 2005 (according to ESPN stats) to our team. Woo Hoo!

My initial guess would be Hobson would move inside...Now this is looks like a "oh wow this is it?" kinda deal but he knows the 3-4 and he may be keeping the seat warm for whatever rookie is drafted to come in and take over...It'd be a solid move like Vision said...Not saying he's gonna be great, but just a role player who could fill in nicely in the transition to a 3-4.

That makes sense. I believe AJ Hawk is going to be a JET. I cant shake that feeling. I don't see Mangini passing him up. We'll see what happens.

Don't count your meager chickens yet. This from today's Boston Globe:

Offensive tackle Tom Ashworth visited with the Buccaneers yesterday and was meeting with the Dolphins last night and today. His agent, Tom Mills, said Ashworth planned to return to Boston to review his options. The hope was to strike a deal within a few days.

Linebacker Matt Chatham, who visited with the Jets Saturday, had yet to come to an agreement with New York as of last night. His agent, Paul Sheehy, said the sides were crunching numbers but that if a deal wasn't reached, two other clubs had expressed interest in visiting with Chatham this week.

Chatham's a big boy. 6'4" 250lbs. and he knows the defense Mangini is going to install. Wouldn't be too bad of a signing.

If memory serves me correct, Chatham said he wanted a "chance" to start. Unlike with Herm, no ones job is safe under camp Mangini. There will open competition for every position, the way it should be. This should be no problem for Chatham.

The only reason I know who Matt is because in one of the Patriots Superbows, right before the second half opening kick, a streaker ran on the field and Matt leveled him.

    OLB - Barton
    ILB - Vilma
    ILB - Hobson
    OLB - Chatman

...works for me. That would be a young, fast LB corpse that could be very good.

Agree with you Hornet, they know what they're doing. But what I think their doing is bringing this guy in as a special teams Darrell McGlover type guy and are not thinking about him seriously as a started :drunk: as some in this thread seem to be suggesting
