The Jets could do a lot worse. If this is their plan, looks like Bollinger is gone as Penny/Kitna would be 1/2 and Cutler would be 3.
I like Kitna, the way he handled being comeback player of the year to bench the next year was amazing. We will need character guys like him with the crap load of rookies next year.
he's only like 31 or 32 i thought....and we only need a backup just incase chad gets hurt...so if we could have jon for his final 2-4 nfl years, that'd be real nice IMO
yea there not drafting cutler and signing kitna, I hope they just sign Kitna and start him this season or at least until pennington comes back and then next year they make QB a priority in the draft.
Hi, it's me, Reality, we need to talk. You can never count on Pennington to carry this team to the promised land. He is toast. The only reason we are working on a deal with him is because it presents the best case scenario in terms of taking a financial hit. If we could cut all ties with the guy today, and it wouldn't impact the team negatively ($), he'd already be out on his keester.
If I was kitna and baltimore wanted me I would go. He would easily be the best QB they have in years or ever. Plus you can suck at qb and start there for years
The Jets have to draft a QB, either Leinart or Cutler, regardless of whether they keep Pennington. Bringing in an old guy is just not the way to go.
If they sign Kitna then it is to groom whichever QB they draft this year and Penny would be a goner. That is Kitna's forte now. If they get Ramsey instead then they dont draft a QB and Penny stays and tries to recover.
If the Jets sign Pennington they need to have 4 QB's in camp. You need at least 3 healthy QB's on the roster. Even if they sign Kitna and keep Brooks they will need another QB.
Kitna would be a great sign, then we can worry about QB next year, he has a good long time left so there would be no sense of uregency to fill the hole with something that will not work out.
You can't assume you'll be in a position to get a good young QB next year. You've got to take the opportunity when you have it, and you have it now.
I totally agree. You pick up Kitna at a very reasonable price right now, then you still draft a QB in the 1st round. You're done for now and our "Franchise QB" (hopefully) has us set for years to come. Here's the lineup: 1) Kitna: healthy and ready to go (and doesn't break the bank). 2) Bollinger: healthy and ready to go (also doesn't break the bank). 3) Pennington: Probably not healthy enough in '06 but good to have around (if the price is right). 4) Jay Cutler or Vince Young on the bench being groomed and gaining valuable experience to start in '07.
Right now we have the oppurtunity of Cutler or Young, reallistically Young maybe a big time player or a big time bust and Cutler scares me as a bust. I would much rather take Kitna and get a guy like Whitehurst, Jacobs or Croyle right now, or just sign Kitna and wait until next year. There will be another crop of QBs led by Quinn, I know there is one other guy that will be a top 5 pick as well, just cannot remember his name.
