today at the Senior Bowl for an extended period of time. According to a few members at Jets Insider. I would love the pick at 37 if he is still there.
The best case scenario for the Jets to fill two of their major holes would be if Tank Tyler was still there at #25 and Spencer/Moss/Woodley is still there at #37.
best case scenario would be carriker at #25.. we need a DE, not NT since we should rotate robertson, pouha, and whoever else we have. dewayne played NT a learned the position for a year. should we just give up on him now? especially since he improved as the year went on? then we get micheal bush at #37 and get the power back we are all talking about at such a good price because of his injury (similar to mcgahee) and then take an OLB (1 of them is bound to drop) at #57. that fills 3 major holes in our team without needing to trade any picks (which could make that team stronger) and we can sign rookie contracts meaning our salary cap will be in good shape.
In my opinion, Anthony Spencer is a much more polished, well-rounded prospect then Lamaar Woodley for OLB in the 3-4. All Woodley is good for is a bullrush, but at the next level (the NFL), he will not be able to push linemen back, because they are all bigger then him. Some people say Cedric Houston is too small to be a bruiser back, well, in my opinion, Woodley is the same thing, just at OLB. Anthony Spencer brings more versatility, and can use the bullrush, rush around the end, and plays the run better as well.
I have this copied to my clipboard so I don't have to keep typing it every 2 days: Tank Tyler was arrested for assault a couple of years ago and was once ejected from a game for spitting on an opponent. There is no way Mangini goes anywhere near him.
Chances of getting Carriker @ #25 look to be slipping away. I am thinking for the first 2 rounds: 25. Spencer 37. Brandon Mebane (can definitley play NT and having a pretty good Senior Bowl. Has been dominating the OL all week. 58. Tony Hunt Put D-Rob at DE along w/ Ellis. 58.
Purdue's Spencer Surprised By Senior Bowl Invite Boilermaker Shows Powerful Engine By J. Michael Moore, DenverBroncos.com (CBS4/DenverBroncos.com) MOBILE, Ala. Purdue defensive end Anthony Spencer admits he was slightly surprised when he got an invitation to this year's Senior Bowl. He had just three sacks in 2005, but racked up 26.5 tackles for losses and was named the Boilermaker's most valuable player as a senior. He's made yet another jump in the past few days -- dominating NFL-caliber talent. Spencer blew past Penn State offensive tackle Levi Brown, who is one of the most decorated linemen here, on consecutive plays in one-on-one drills and threw his 261 pound frame around the field all morning. "I think playing against some of the best tackles in the league and the nation and getting to showcase my talents against them is huge for me," he said. Spencer worked primarily at right end, but took a few snaps on the left side and made it into the backfield on some more occasions.
