http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/03/23/andre-roberts-signs-one-year-deal-with-jets/ Posted by Charean Williams The Jets announced they signed receiver Andre Roberts to a one-year contract. While Roberts made only one catch for the Falcons last season, he averaged 22.6 yards on 38 kickoff returns and 7.4 yards on 27 punt returns. The Jets expect him to take over those duties for them. Roberts, 30, has averaged 23.4 yards in his career on kickoff returns with one touchdown and 8.1 yards on punt returns with two scores. In eight seasons, he has played for four teams. The Cardinals made him a third-round pick in 2010, and he also spent time with Washington and Detroit as well as the one season he spent in Atlanta. *** Commentary *** Seems like a JAG camp fodder guy, but someone has to return kicks and punts.
I don't understand this signing. The Jets already had 5 returners on their roster. He obviously doesn't contribute on offense, and his return stats aren't even very good. Actually, they're awful. He was 36th in the NFL on KORs with his paltry 22.6 avg. The top 4 returners averaged over 30 yards per return, the next 9 returners averaged over 25 yards per return, and there were 2 more that were just under 25 yards per return. The top 10 PRs averaged between 9.4 and 15.4 yards per return. Hopefully, he won't be around long.
The Jets have a 7 layered dogshit nachos plate at PR/KR. It won't hurt to try every brown jalapeno wheel that rolls by at this point.
Yes. Besides Whitehead and Roberts, we also have 4 other returners on the roster: Damore'ea Stringfellow, Brisly Estime, JoJo Natason, and Jalin Marshall.
Will be nice to, for once, have a competition at KR/PR with two competent, proven return men in Whitehead and Roberts. My $ is on Roberts. He should come away, barring injury or age becoming a factor, with this job. He's done a serviceable job for several teams and serviceable would feel like Devin Hester in these parts after what we've had since Justin Miller, Brad Smith and Leon Washington left the building.
I disagree. His numbers with Atlanta suck. If he can't do better there, how's he gonna be even passable here? Unless the others just suck, I hope he doesn't get the job or even make the roster. I'm rooting for Brisly Estime.
I if I recall correctly Estime was considered by many to be the favorite to win the return job last year until he went down with an achilles injury.
His numbers in Atlanta sucked, per who? You? Take a look at his numbers with the Jets. It's a big upgrade from what we had, especially on punt returns. A whole 3 more yards per return. I doubt some no name scrub will take the job over either Roberts or Whitehead. We've gone down that road enough.
Per the stats. Have you even bothered to check how the best PRs and KORs in the NFL did last year? Obviously not. You really need to learn to do some research and not just shoot your mouth off based on nothing but your wild conjectures and opinions. If Bowles is as many of us have thought, he definitely will give Roberts and Whitehead every chance to win the job, but if Natson, Estime or any of the others blow Roberts and Whitehead away, they had better win the job, or I'll want Bowles head on a spike at MetLife Stadium.
We haven't had a good returner since Leon Washington. I walk away during kick/punt returns as I know nothing is happening.
