Jets | Team signs W. Smith Thu, 14 Sep 2006 22:16:23 -0700 Dave Hutchinson, of the Star-Ledger, reports the New York Jets signed OL Wade Smith (Dolphins) Thursday, Sept. 14. He is expected to be in uniform in Week 2.
Smith signed to help offensive line Friday, September 15, 2006 BY DAVE HUTCHINSON / Star-Ledger Staff HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- As expected, the Jets, concerned about depth along the offensive line, yesterday agreed to terms with ex-Dolphin Wade Smith. Smith, a fourth-year pro, worked out for the Jets on Wednesday. He's expected to be in uniform Sunday against the Patriots at Giants Stadium. The 6-4, 320-pounder is a versatile performer who can play several positions along the line. The Dolphins recently released him, in part, because second-year coach Nick Saban continues to get rid of players brought in by the old regime.Smith started 16 games at left tackle for the Dolphins as a rookie in 2003. The Jets wanted insurance with veteran G Pete Kendall nursing a hamstring injury. Kendall has been limited in practice this week. If he can't go, second-year C/G Norm Katnik will replace him in the starting lineup. ===== Veteran C Trey Teague, signed as an unrestricted free agent during the off-season as the heir apparent to the departed Kevin Mawae, returned to practice on a limited bases yesterday for the first time since suffering a broken left ankle during workouts in June. The injury to Teague forced rookie first-round pick Nick Mangold (29th overall) into the starting lineup and the Ohio State product has played well. When Teague is ready, he'll likely back up Mangold. He has also started at left tackle. Teague, a ninth-year pro, won't play Sunday at Giants Stadium."I'm going to suit up, go out there and see where I'm at," Teague said yesterday before practice. "I'm just trying to get better every day." ===== RB Kevan Barlow is learning more and more of the offense and should be a bigger part of the game plan Sunday. There's a chance he may start, but at the very least he'll get more than the 11 carries he had last week against the Titans."It's picking up a lot," Barlow said. "As I've said, I'm here early and learning everything. Hopefully, I'll be able to go out there (against New England) and play a lot more than I did last week. "It depends on how I practice and how I pick up on things. I think I'm doing a good job." ===== Dewayne Robertson played most of Sunday's game in Tennessee at NT and held his own with four tackles. He had been playing a lot of DE. ===== According to the Elias Sports Bureau, QB Chad Pennington's two long passes to WR Laveranues Coles last week (41 and 38 yards) marked only the second time in his career he completed two passes that traveled more than 30 yards beyond the line of scrimmage in the same game. He also did it against the Redskins in 2004. ===== WR Tim Dwight (thigh) didn't practice yesterday and is questionable. ... Pats LB Tedy Bruschi (wrist) didn't practice and is questionable. S Rodney Harrison (flu) didn't practice but is probable.

Stupid Newark Star Ledger Haha, I saw that too. The last time we played the Redskins was in 2003, and it was Vinny under center since Chad was out with a broken left wrist. Seriously, since I moved away from NJ the Star Ledger is definetly one paper that I don't miss. Fact-checking problems like this are way too common...plus there was the time they put a Devils article under the NBA header:lol:
umm how bout no?? jones is a valuable backup lt (hes pretty good at lt, and i heard hes working in at guard......rt hes awful no doubt) moore is a pretty good starter for us at rg, what's your beef with him?
Can't go wrong with an experienced player such as Wade. But even if Kendall doesn't end up playing... Katnik will play at LG correct?

seriously...lately the papers are just awful......the people that write these little blurbs on the jets have no clue most of the time
