Yeah... maybe I was getting a bit too excited at the prospect of having two capable tight ends. It was the only position I ever played in organised football... and I love seeing tight ends utilized properly. I never got the ball enough...
Conklin is better than any Jets TE they have had in years and he will be TE2 this season behind Uzomah. Joe Douglas continues his magic!
Glad to see we’ve signed these two tightends with a lot of experience playing in cold weather divisions (even if Conklin played in two divisional domes). Building a team properly for the north east in December and January is important.
Looking like a completely different Jet team in '22. Hopefully they won't look like the NFL equivalent of the '62 Mets again.
I don’t think either of these guys are significant mismatch type players in the pass game, but what they both bring is viability as blockers and receivers. The Jets moves so far to me say “we are still going to run our offense with the outside run game as the foundation and play action as a significant part of our passing offense.” The addition of Tomlinson, Uzomah, and Conklin spells out their desire to run the ball effectively. I doubt the Jets will run any 3TE sets outside of the occasional short yardage or goal line situation, but I still believe they will draft one because all it takes is losing 1 guy to injury to totally lose 2TE sets from your arsenal. I think that the Jets will also be interested in a player like Drake London who can be a big slot, and function well as a blocker. He would fit well into the offense and help with their plan to run a ball control offense like they did in SF.
Then it would be on the CS if that happens, no excuse to not be a contender for Wild Card. JD is giving Saleh and company everything they need to be successful.
Great signing, about the same level as Uzomah. Not one, but two big guys, play makers, who can catch for Zach to throw the ball to, in addition to being good blockers. Each one has more yards last year than anyone on the Jets. This is a MAJOR upgrade of TE room, the weakest position on the team.
Everything I’ve heard makes it seem as though the Jets think they’re good at LB so I based my list off of that.
No offense, but you missed our biggest need --LINEBACKER for run support.. Jets run defense was pathetic last year and if Douglas persists in thinking those mid-round safeties he drafted last year can play linebacker in the NFL we are in trouble.
Think it’s key to grab these veteran guys who can still play at a high level for Zach. Not sure if this means no TE in the draft but the Jets liked 2 TE personnel last year…at least Uzomah and Conklin are viable threats in the passing game but can block as well.
there were some really really really bad attempts at blocking from the TE spot last year... like playing with 10 men
in emergency brake glassman... oh, he's been shipped! jk guy cant stay healthy. looked like a decent hustle type b/u ST LB type.. but... just always injured
