Per Manish Mehta's twitter - on my phone so can't post a link

He's a RB off of the Houston Texans practice squad; anyone know much about him?

Coaches love RB Jonathan Grimes, an undrafted FA from Bill an Mary. Fits this downhill running style.

Grimes led the nation in all-purpose yards, averaging 228 and change for William & Mary. Take that as you will. #Jets

At least it shows the Jets know there is a problem. Bringing in CB Chris Carr for a work also.

Great news. They are trying to address the problem at least. We run the ball, it will help everything.

It can't hurt but the bottom line is if you want to be a run heavy team you need that standout hands down number one RB. Greene isn't that, he's average at best. There are teams that have great receivers that still have better RBs than us.

If they are serious about making the run game a priority they will either need to trade for, sign or use a first round pick (might be a high one too if things really go off the rails this year) to get a legit starting RB.

Wonder if this means McKnight will be playing more CB than RB.

I remember Grimes having a pretty strong preseason for the Texans if I'm not mistaken. I really want to see Powell move into the starting role but Grimes seems to be of the same mold. All I know is Greene isn't working out.

Grimes is a nice pick-up. It can't hurt to have RB depth, particularly when we don't have a stand-out RB.

I thought Powell was looking better than Greene last game. With McKnight barely taking snaps, we could use the extra RB. Powell needs more snaps, IMO.

FYI Powell is averaging 4.0 YPC. Greene is at 2.8. Yuck. Maybe time to switch their roles although quite often you see #2 backs averaging more YPC because they are used situationaly.

He is a good runner and plays hard from what I've heard. It just so happens he had to be the odd man out w Foster/Tate/Forsett

I would assume that a RB off of the Texans practice squad is better than anybody the Jets have. The Texans have done a good job of finding versatile backs over the last decade. Dominick Williams, Steve Slaton and Arian Foster speak well to their ability to find and develop talent at the position. They all caught the ball well out of the backfield also.

He appears to be about 5'10" and 207 lbs. Runs a 4.5ish 40 yard. That seems comparable to Powell. Not sure what this is about. Perhaps just scouting the Texans.

My son is a student at William & Mary and went to all the games. I saw him several times. We both think that Grimes is really good. I was hoping that the Jets would draft him in the last round or sign him as a FA.

For Houston, he scored a TD in an exhibition game and was on the roster until the final cuts. It's not like the bar on Jet RBs is set really high at the moment so he has a chance to be better than what they have.

  17. Please. Texans got lucky with Arian Foster. And before Slaton who is really nothing special they had busts in Ben Tate(2nd round),Trindon Holiday,Vernand Morency(2nd round),Tony Hollings(gave up 1st rounder) & Dominick Davis(4th round). Would you rather have any of them over Lamont Jordan,Derrick Ward,Leon Washington & Shonn Greene?

Slaton and Tate are both talented backs and I would definitely take Tate over what we have now. I really miss Leon.

Rather have Tate than Greene. Don't know why you'd consider him a bust.

Edit: Sorry, computer froze up...didn't mean to pile on.
