http://www.ganggreennation.com/2012/5/1/2992326/jets-sign-k-josh-brown Good luck Nick Folk! Just for measure here's Nick's stats.
Good. Been begging for a good kicking competition for a couple years now. Folk has been in the bottom 3rd in the league in FG % both years he was here. He can easily be upgraded. Brown isn't great, but if he can kick like he did '07-'10 we upgraded nicely here. Anyone know if it is considered tough to kick in Seattle? I know Stl is a dome, so his numbers might be skewed a bit.
Peace Nick, get the FOLK outta here! On a serious note though, it makes sense for the Jets to upgrade at Kicker considering Sparano the fist-pumpin' field goal God is running the show. I expect 30/35+ attempts this fall, might as well get a Kicker who can make them.
I think this is a good signing,,,,,my only concern is that brown was in a dome and then in sea where I might be wrong but it is not a hard place to kick,,,,am I wrong ? Ps I think folk hurt us on kickoffs,,hopefully brown can boom em
Seems a good signing. I don't think he'll beat Folk out in a competition but always good to have backup.
Wow. STL hasn't score many TDs the past 4 years! I don't see Brown as much of an upgrade to be honest, but a little competition is always a good thing.
Good signing for a nice competition. Brown has been kicking in a dome for awhile now so you gotta keep that in mind as well.
Excellent signing Josh brown is a very strong kicker who had an off year. He has FAR more upside than Folk. i asked for this move after i heard he was cut. If he is anything close to the 2010 Brown, he destroys Folk in competition.
One thing worth pointing out Josh Brown has played in a dome, Folk has played in the nasty outdoor weather of the north east Therefore its hard to compare the two
Seattle has pretty harsh conditions at times, and even with St Luis they still play half their games on the road. I welcome the competition, and hopefully upgrade at the position. Now we just need a punter and Jim Leonhard and we're set for training camp.
I don't care about isolated bad years for kickers...if they did it consistently before they can again
That other kid we're bringing in that whacked like 70yd FGs could put kick offs out of the end zone routinely. Westy could keep the rest of the players on the bench while dude strolls out and puts the ball into the first row.
Of course it is, unless you didnt realize he played in Seattle? He played 5 seasons there. According to my math: While playing with Seattle he was 116/145 which equals 80%, not too bad, since Folk was 76% last season. Looking into his stats, at MetLife, he was 7/7 on FGs in 4 games. Small sample size but hey, he hasnt missed yet! He's also pretty solid in the 4th quarter. Adding up his stats he's 64/71 (about 90.1%). Not taking anything away from Folk though, while its a smaller sample size he has been pretty consistent as well in the 4th, 34/36 (94.4%). Brown has 8 game winning field goals in 9 years while Folk has (I believe) 4 game winners in 5 years, so on the clutch factor standpoint they're about even. (Collected the game winner stats by looking around on the internet, if it is wrong please correct me) It looks like a dead even race in training camp, it will certainly be interesting.
I'm happy to see competition but, as I'm sure you already know, we (as fans) all can't jump the gun and tell Folk to GTFO. Folk could very well beat out Brown... Brown just isn't that good.
