Never heard of the guy in my life. By all accounts it sounds like a depth signing… only $6 mil guaranteed.
A sixth-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2018, Martin has spent the past three seasons with the Houston Texans. He’s appeared in 61 career games (15 starts), recording 64 tackles (38 solo, 13 for a loss), 24 QB hits, 13.5 sacks, six forced fumbles and four passes defensed. In 2021, Martin also recorded a career-high 4.0 sacks to go along with a career-high PFF grade of 67.3.
I wouldn’t say a guy making $6 mil guaranteed over three years shuts down the possibility of KT at 4. He’s a rotational player at best. What we wanted Vinny Curry to be.
Solid depth signing. Nothing to go crazy about but he should be a part of the DL rotation, especially on passing downs.
I don’t think any of these signings change what we do in the draft. Jd is fleshing out a roster and will add talent based on how the board falls. Every position but qb is in play
Looks like a solid 3rd down specialist. Guess he's kind of like the a wide-9 DE? Sounds like a quality addition. On paper, this looks like a solid DE group - Lawson and JFM start with Martin as a situational rusher and Huff as depth. I think this would also give even more flexibility for JFM to play inside. I certainly don't think it precludes the Jets from drafting an edge at 4 whatsoever. I think it could decrease the urgency for such a pick though if there's doubt. I still think DE will be addressed within the first four picks. For me, the most glaring weakness is an IDL who plays the run well. Not advocating for him, but it does make me think of Jordan Davis at 10. Travis Jones at the top of the 2nd could also be a great fit. Still, I'm a huge fan of what the Jets are doing this offseason.
