Coach Rex Ryan announced on Monday that there would be “ramifications” regarding Bart Scott’s personal foul in Sunday’s game, a penalty that cost the Jets their second shutout of the season.

Yesterday, Scott’s bill came due. Ryan, who traditionally gives his entire defense game balls for a shutout, will have Scott take care of those duties. Scott, usually very available in the locker room to reporters, was nowhere to be found yesterday.

Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis revealed that he called out Scott on the sideline right after the penalty, telling him what he did was “selfish.”

“I kind of got on him and told him that was a selfish play,” Revis said. “That wasn’t a smart play on his part. You’ve got to be smart and be wise about those situations. He didn’t take it as me trying to come down on him or anything. I heard him and I said, ‘OK, just be smart.’ ”

    * Neither Falcons starting QB Matt Ryan (turf toe) nor starting RB Michael Turner (ankle) practiced yesterday, and the status of both for Sunday’s game is in question.

“It’s a day-to-day situation with both of those guys,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said.

Ryan and Turner were two of seven Falcons starters who didn’t practice yesterday. DE John Abraham, the former Jet, was out with an illness. Also out yesterday were DE Jamaal Anderson (chest), DT Jonathan Babineaux (shoulder), OL Sam Baker (elbow, hamstring) and CB Chris Houston (hamstring). . . . OL Robert Turner (knee) was the only player who didn’t practice for the Jets. . . . The Jets signed offensive tackle Dan Gay to the practice squad.

    * Kellen Clemens called out himself for coming off as too negative after the Jets win Sunday at Tampa Bay.

“After looking at the tape, I feel a lot better about it,” Clemmens said of his performance (12-of-23, 111 yards). “I shouldn’t have had that demeanor at the podium, especially after a win. That was my mistake.”

    * Smith and Ryan are good friends, having worked together with the Ravens when Smith was there from 1999-2002. Both were candidates for the Falcons head-coaching job in 2008, when Smith was hired.

Ryan, who praised Atlanta owner Arthur Blank and said he thought he had a real shot at the job, said jokingly of the Smith hire, “I think they made a great decision. Not the best decision, but a great decision.”

Asked what went wrong for him, Ryan said in jest, “I think I was too fat.”

Did anybody else read this as Rex Ryan cutting off Scott's balls, and awarding them to the rest of the defense?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think Ryan ordered Scott to give the whole defense game balls for a "shutout." The Bucs did get 3 points off the D, but it was because of Scott's penalty. So every person on D got a game ball for a "shutout" and Scott didn't because he pretty much was handed all the blame for allowing 3 points (and rightfully so). Not an pricey punishment, but I bet he felt pretty embarrassed about it. There was an article on nyj.com that talked a little more about Scott handing out game balls, which I cannot find currently.

I like that Rex isn't too buddy-buddy to call his ass out.

Also appreciate the leadership from our Savior.

I saw this when it happened. They cut to the sidelines, and Revis was following Scott around yelling at him. The problem is, I don't think Scott really cared, because as Revis was following him and trying to get at it him, Scott just kept rolling his eyes.

On TV you could clearly see Revis scolding Scott. Scott knew he was in the wrong.

It was good to see Revis leading his flock.

Scott has to pay for 20+ game balls. It is kind of a kangaroo court thing. I think it is a good idea.

Ryan considered the game a shutout which means the whole defense gets game balls. Since Scott's penalty ruined the shutout, he had to buy the game balls for the entire defense.

Is there really anything negative that can be said about Revis? The guy is amazing against all the top receivers and a leader on the defense. Not to mention he lets his play do all his talking.

He's been doing stupid stuff like this for years. It's like he never learns. Now that Rex is HC maybe punishments like this will get it through his head. We can only hope.
