Jets propose new deal for Pro Bowl CB Revis, who's evaluating it

    Associated Press
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis, looking for a new contract, says the team sent his agents a proposal last week and they are currently evaluating it.

Ryan: Bring Super Bowl to NYC/NJ
New York Jets coach Rex Ryan believes Super Bowl XLVII will, and should, be played in New York/New Jersey over Tampa Bay and South Florida. More ...
The All-Pro selection said Thursday that he would like to be the highest-paid player at his position, considering he's regarded by many as the league's best cornerback.

Oakland Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha signed a three-year, $45.3 million deal last offseason.

Revis is scheduled to make $1 million in the fourth season of his six-year rookie deal. He says he'll sign the Jets' proposal if everything looks good. Revis also says a recent published report saying he wanted $20 million per season is "insane" and doesn't know its source.

    Revis:

"This is nothing behind closed doors [like] I am fighting against the Jets and they are fighting against me. I have talked to Coach [Rex] Ryan and [general manager Mike] Tannenbaum himself and they believe I should be the highest-paid player at my position. They understand that and I understand that. It is something that is going to get done. The Jets are family to me."

My guess is that he'll get at least 16 mil per year but no where near 20.

So will this contract have to be mostly in bonuses due to the 30% rule?

When the Revis camp turns down the first deal don't go crazy. This is the first offer in a negotiation. I'd be shocked if the first offer were the final accepted offer.

Just trying to preemptively save myself the pain of reading all about how much of a whiny asshole Revis is for not accepting the first offer put on the table.

Well he wants to be in that position and I admit, he will get his contract delivered to him. Before all is said and done.

I would love locking revis up for a long time before the season starts...it is so nice knowing that we have a stud like him...it really is scary to think about Revis, Cromartie and Wilson together...

    Remember Curtis Martin?

Now we have Darelle Revis, but we drafted him.

Are we still betting on the idea that the first year would be a huge amount since it is an uncapped year and then smaller sums after that for when the cap is possibly reinstated

I have no problem with that, just make sure Tanny gets this guy locked up long term and make him a Jet for life

I would start off with something like 6 years/90 mill, and be willing to go up from there if necessary.

They'll probably turn this down unless it's some huge deal. Hate to be pessimistic, but I see it working out that way.
