This is from the ESPN Insider Article on possible NFL cuts, I don't have insider, I actually found this on a Mets board.

All seem reasonable, while I don't want to see Mawae or Coles leave, I see Mawae anyway as in the team's interest for rebuilding. But Coles should restructure. If not, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

    Same for Chad.

Has it been verified that Mawae was cut? Someone said they announced it on the FAN but I haven't heard it elsewhere.

    Coles isn't going anywhere.

I expect Kendall is done for.

Barton will be interesting; we have capable depth at LB and we don't want to pay that 3 mill. I'm anxious to see how this unfolds.

    cheers

I think another post said Kevin was gone. As far as coles, no way. That's just not a fan saying that but someone thinking of practicalities. Why get him gone? Money? With Coles talent and age I can't help but think he'll be around a bit. Mangini is certainly making his mark on the team but there are too many holes to fill, as is, before we tinker with a position that can certainly stay afloat for one more sesson.

Mawae's agent was on ESPN Radio today and he fully expects Mawae to be cut.

I am shocked by Barton. He was one of the guys that I thought was a lock to stay.
If they do cut him then I fully expect Hawk to be drafted at #4.

    ohh all right. thanks, dude.

cutting Coles (though I highly doubt it's happening) would really piss me off because we will haven lost both Santana and him and get absolutely nothing in return.

    cheers

im sure coles will be here although he definately needs to restructure, but i think the franchise would eb able to continue even without the services of coles

Coles won't go. Unless he wants it, why should he? Everyone wants their payday but this is one kid that deserves it. Say what you will about Chad, Curtis, Kevin whoever. They were all good at a point but I can understand why we would start looking in diff, directions in regards to those 3. Coles is young, talented and motivated. He should and probably will remain a JET.

Coles will restructure and free up at least $3-4mil in cap space, if not more. We are currently about $11mil over. In addition to the Coles restructuring, cutting Pennington, Mawae, and Kendall would put us under the cap. Restructuring Ellis and Robertson gives us some spending money.

Coles should stay. The rest should go. Without them the Jets could improve all the way to 5-11.

Our defense sucked without Barton last year.

True, but our defense sucked even more without Jason Ferguson.

No way Barton should be gone. This guy was sturdy as hell in 2004, and didn't get a chance to play in 2005. Why should we cut him? He's still young and entering his prime.
