They would do really well next to each other. Graham's weakness/concern is how he will hold up against double teams. But here, in the scenario where he's next to Williams, Williams takes the doubles and Graham gets one-on-one with a guard. He will do well immediately in that scenario
Absolutely. Like I said I'd be thrilled to walk away with Graham at 7. Most ideal scenario in my mind when you rule out Ward, Carter and Hunter. Unfortunately he's probably going to be gone and probably at 6 to really rub it in.
I don’t really ever understand your logic surrounding prospects but this again makes very little sense. Where do you find reports of teams consensus rankings of prospects and why would they ever reveal that honest information to other teams?
Jax probably takes Graham for sure whats going on with Carter? I thought these injury reports were overblown but he cant seem to shake it. Maybe he will fall
This is wrong at so many levels is not even funny. Can’t line up next to each other, paying thirty million again, all incorrect statements. They would more than compliment each other, there will not double teams on either, freeing Q, Mason will get paid a rookie salary, and Q does not get $30M. Top that with the fact it would elevate our anemic D against the run to a top notch outfit. Go watch how the eagles won the SB.
I listen to the NFL Channel on Sirius and Bill Polian has mentioned, more than once, that there are teams that do not have more than 15 players with a 1st round grade on them and only one of the QB's with a 1st round grade. Now, I'm going to ASSUME they are talking about Cam Ward and not Sanders as that lone QB. I happen to respect Polian and I'd lay $$ that he's not on the airwaves bullshitting people. So, that's where I got my info in this case. Besides, I've gone back and looked at a bit of game film and, not that it matters, but I do not have a 1st round grade on the kid. In my opinion, the ONLY reason he's getting first round talk is because of who his dad is. In my mind, that's fact. Coupled with this franchise's completely PROVEN inability to do shit with a drafted rookie QB...yeah, it's all I need. Nothing like racing out to draft a "maybe" QB with a brand new coaching staff led by a defensive minded head coach and an unknown as O.C. Considering this team's history, that's a big hell no in my mind.
so OK, there are no facts there. Certainly its fine to have your opinion on Sanders but it was incorrect to say that teams have a 2nd or 3rd round grade on him. This was based solely on your opinion and that of 82 year old Bill Polian
When the Jets end up picking in the top 5 selections of of next year's draft how many people here are going to essentially end up making the same exact argument again next winter about whoever we potentially reach at in *this* upcoming draft? I'm pretty confident it would end up being pretty much every single poster I see in this thread stressing a desire to spend a top end pick on QB this year.
So much talk everywhere (not just this team's fan boards by any stretch) about chasing the trade down value in the first round. With pretty much all of it failing to add some actual consideration context to it. So let's try talking out the mostly likely and realistic type scenario here for a change: Pittsburgh ends up being the only team looking to trade up for a B level and non-franchise changer type QB prospect in Sanders. They are on the phone at pick 7 offering a trade down to 21 in a weak draft, and are willing to give up their next year #1 and #3 plus maybe an extra latter round fluff pick to make it happen. Are you trade down advocates wanting to see the NYJ bite on something like that?
seems very unrealistic but of course. If the Steelers really offer 2 1st round picks and a 3rd for the no. 7 overall you accept it and crack open the courvoisier
They’re not run stuffers. They’re 3 tech penetrating DL’s. What Quinnen needs is a big fat 1 Tech lined up over the G and Center gap that can take in double teams and hold the line up. Two 3 tech style penetrating DT’s next to each other is a huge liability against the run. If you have both guys on the same team you’re either rotating them as subs for each other or you’re asking one of them to play 1 Tech style, which is diametrically opposed to what makes both of them great.
No they wouldn’t. They’re both 3 Tech DT’s. The 3 Tech lines up between the G and OT and penetrates the line immediately off the snap. Their job is to stop the run on the qay to the QB. The 1 Tech doesn’t penetrate, he holds the line and usually takes up 2 blockers trying to redirect and slow down the runner for the LB’s to make a play. Lining two 3 Tech’s next to each other means you ask one of them to stop trying to penetrate the backfield (literally what a 3 Tech does), and perform as a 1 Tech just taking up blockers. It’s like having 2 Aaron Donald’s and asking one to stop penetrating the OL to go after the QB. Meanwhile they both cost a premium, when you can find 1 Tech’s on the market for small potatoes. If you wanna trade Quinnen ad draft Graham sure, but if you think our run D is bad now, just wait till you line up 2 DT’s trying to penetrate and sack the QB at the same time.
Both Graham and Williams are versatile players that can play multiple techniques along the line. Graham has been compared to Christian Wilkins from the Dolphins who played all over the line Furthermore, the Jets, like every other team in the league, would vary their fronts anyway. It is not 1980, they aren't going to line up base 4-3 every down in the same spots along the line Lastly I fail to see how 2 Aaron Donalds would be a bad thing or how you can just grab "1-technique" run stuffers from Walgreens or something
If 17 teams do not have a 1st round grade then what would you call it? "Infinity Grade?" I'm done back and forthing with you. Sanders is a waste and, if thrown into the fire his first year, WILL BE out of the league by year 5. Say "HI!" to Trey Lance on the way out the league. JSMH
I'd snap on that in a fucking heartbeat and TWICE on Sunday! Shit, man...I'd RUN to the phone and take that ALL day long!
Oh yeah, if he is there at 7, I am running to the podium. Then #2 and #3 picks will be WR and RT. Ideally I would like to address these 3 positions with our three top 75 pick in the draft, not necessarily in this order. Or if we pick Warren at #7, then that would take WR off the board as Warren would essentially be pass catcher #2. The RT #2 and DL round 3.
I don't know if we would be investing 40 mil in Fields if Mooge felt both Sanders and Milroe are top 7 picks, since one of them will actually be there and very likely both. I just don't see us taking a QB at 7, and I doubt even with round 2 or 3 or even 4, but we'll see.
You’re being too rigid with your expectations and desires for where players line up. Nagle’s Eagle example was a good one. Regardless of where they lined up, Jalen Carter & Milton Williams are both prototypical 3T’s that lined up together (in whatever gap they ended up in) and wrecked games. I don’t really want Graham because I think he’ll be a good player with a high floor but I don’t think he’ll be a top ten pick worthy game wrecker. I just don’t think the we have Q (who probably gets cut after this year anyways) so we shouldn’t take Graham argument makes sense. I don’t think Fields’s contract (which is on the pretty low end for a starting non rookie QB) factors into their decision for drafting a QB much. Finding a franchise QB isn’t about resource and cap management when you only have Fields on basically a one year prove it deal. You’re just referencing one source of what’s probably pure speculation and mismanaged information that teams feed for the purpose of smoke screens to other teams. You really think every team is feeding Polian (or any reporter really) their full boards?
