Jets check out Bush just in case Wednesday, April 19, 2006 BY DAVE HUTCHINSON Star-Ledger Staff http://www.nj.com/jets/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/114542358083740.xml&coll=1
I wish the fact that woody Johnson wasn't at Matt Leinart's workout, but was at Jay Cutler's meant something, but it probably doesn't... I still think Leinart goes #3.
Leinart is "going to beat you with his mind"? If brainpower won football matches Steven Hawking would have 10 Super Bowl rings: more to the point Leinart would have won the Rose Bowl against the apparently dopey Vince Young.
You can't blame Matt Leinart for the rose bowl loss...it obviously all came down to that 4th and one play and the horrendous defensive play by USC. Matt Leinart did just about all he could in that game. He nearly had 400 yards passing if I remember correctly.
Yeah, he did play a great game in the Rose Bowl, he's a big game player.....I wasn't really having a go at him more at his comment: for someone with such a great 'mind' it was a relatively stupid thing to say. Leinart would be wise to let his performances to speak for himself, and not his mouth....those performances certainly are good enough to.
Can ya see it now .... "Leinart brings em to the line ... wait ... whats this ... he appears to be using the Jedi mind trick on the opposing MLB ... what a great play!!!"
Think its hard for the fellas who are projected to go top 5.....they are the centre of attention and have microphones stuffed in their faces all day every day. Leinart does, however, seem to be quoted more than others, and probably this is because he is a smart cookie. He is able to come up with quotes that read well, or sound good....probably more so than the other prospects. Problem is his opponents are going to remember what he said in the newspaper 6 months from now and are going to give him an earful about it. "Hey, Leinart! Yes, you! Leinart! Do you think I'm stupid?! You heard me chessmaster! Think you're smarter than me? You're going down Leinart! Let's see your mind stop me from sacking you!" Often coaches will use what is written and said in the press as motivation to players. Players certainly use it themselves. Sometimes silence is golden.
...He also had a very costly INT in that game.... Ultimate argument that a "great mind" is not enough, see Rhode Scholar finalist Chad Pennington...
Hey, Cannizzaro, ya f'n moron.... The Jets yesterday signed veteran offensive tackle Anthony Clement, who played 14 games with the Cardinals last season, starting six of them. mark.cannizzaro@ny post.com Clement was with SF for not just last year, but the last TWO years. You are an idiot. I DO think it's interesting that Woody only went on the Cutler trip...... the kid from Vandy is gonna be a JET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
